It's no wonder they have so much money to spend with how good they are on the commercial side....... http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/loca...field-town-and-giants-stadium-86081-31425134/
Yeah and it's cheap. Get a couple of work experience or placement folks in for nothing. Give them a generic script to read from of "Hello i'm *insert name* calling from Barnsley Football Club and would like to send your boss some correspondance so can you please pass me on their email address thank you?". Then you can copy and paste the pre made correspondance selling the idea of promoting said business through Barnsley FC. You can ring say 2 weeks later and speak directly to that person after giving them good time to read through it and think things over.
He was at Scunny for years. But 20 years ago he was well in his 40's so what about his career before football? Would be interesting to know.
Just wondering what his credentials were - may need someone with more business savvy in control of the club
I said before on here about how Dean Hoyle runs Huddersfield, my ex girlfriend worked as his marketing bird when he had the card factory, when he took over the football club he asked her to come onboard and the company she now works for are major sponsors at Huddersfield. She hasn't a clue about football just sorts a lot of the media/marketing work out. She came home with a programme one afternoon after she'd been invited to watch a game from the directors box and quickly glancing through the programme l noticed the huge companies that were involved with Huddersfield. She told me that when he took over the club the first thing he said was that he wanted to make the club Premiership standard off the field in terms of income, once he achieves this he's going to pour the money in on the field. I had a conversation with Mark Stokes and a poster from here on twitter regarding how well they were run, saying we could take a leaf out of their book. They disagreed saying we break even, they operated at a few million loss, I pointed out the loss was purely on the playing side, off the field ST sales were up over 20% and turnover was. In total off the field they were up a third. Pretty good in today's climate. All Dean Hoyle needed was promotion, he was spending to get it, now they have let's see what their accounts are....I'll be tweeting Mark back reminding him of the twitter conversation when they release their accounts from the championship, it was before they won the play offs. Our club are happy to plod along, I offered him her companies number, they do a few championship clubs but he said we don't have the money for it.
Very well put. Despite being in the third tier last season was their best ever season for advertising..... http://www.htafc.com/page/Advertising/0,,10312,00.html So much for the economy being **** and companies not willing to spend on advertising.....We could EASILY get in touch the way I put above to a thousand companies bare min and even if only a few are interested it's still extra revenue. Think of how many companies are in the UK be it local ones or well known national ones that sell alcohol, bookies, household appliances etc. There is vast sums of money to be made that are being missed out on.
Mark Stokes tweeted me saying "yeah they'll doing well Hudders £4.1 million loss for the season." He failed to notice off the field: - ST income up 17% - Commercial dept turnover up by 30% - loss didn't include £2.5 million worth of player sales - Record turnover of £7.9 million Dean had ploughed millions in wages to gain promotion thats why they had a loss. Now he'll reap the rewards. A little over 10 years ago we were both in the same division, we averaged 1400 more, since then we have both been relegated, we left Hudders behind and they have played underneath us for the best part of the last ten years. Whats the difference between us both that they will come into the Championship and probably average 6,000 - 8,000 more fans than us next season? http://www.examiner.co.uk/huddersfi...-as-accounts-reveal-4-1m-loss-86081-30363820/
That's a rather uncalled for comment by Stokes. Like you say he's failed to notice what you are saying. We aren't on about club loses. We are on about what we bring in through commercial avenues, compared to what they bring in through commercial avenues. Rather than increase/decrease percentages it would be interesting to know what both clubs brought in through advertising only during the 2011-12 season. I'd not blame anyone not sponsoring the west stand but our other three stands should all have sponsors with decent six figures per season deals.
Taken into context it was a fair comment from him, he failed to look into the losses though. I find him ok on twitter and he tweets some good stuff, pity there's not much help or resource around him.
That's the situation in a nutshell. The mentality that we don't want any big misters coming in because it would show us up for how small time we really are. We're happy with a facebook and twitter page. That's our marketing. Marketing isn't just advertising btw BFC, anyone who has had to bear witness to the amateurish way hospitality is handled, the poty awards and so on and so forth will see how 'marketing' needs a total revamp at Oakwell - or should I say the whole attitude to how BFC is portrayed. It appears to me that again, in the Oakwell bubble we congratulate ourselves on what a fantastic job we do - I respectfully suggest we outsource marketing/pr/hospitality in the way we have done with the club shop. Get rid of the supporters trust - enthusaistic amateurs and it shows. Get some professionals in, and break the small town, small time mentality that strangles BFC currently.
