Currently in deepest remotest Suffolk and just had the pleasure of having dinner in the cottage we’ve got for the week and looking out watching fallow deer, muntjac, hares and a marsh harrier. Then when you think it can’t get much better a little owl lands on a branch about 15 metres away, has a preen before heading off on its nightly rounds.

That after wandering round orford ness all day and seeing and hearing allsorts of delights. Spoonbills, linnets, egrets, oystercatchers, marsh harriers (multiple) and a white throat.

    Joyous for the soul.

Considering stopping over that way when we play Ipswich at Portman Road. Minsmere not too far away, Orford Ness too, plus Adnams Brewery. Bliss.

The joy of nature great Houghton style.

I've had an hour in my back garden for a bit of relax and peace.

Can of lager in hand, and attacked by about 7 wasps, countless flies and now my house is full of the ********

Id recommend dunwich heath too. And a very seldom trod hen reedbeds nature reserve. Even heard the rare and elusive dartford warbler.

Heading to minsmere in the morning, fingers crossed I get to see my first avocet.

Thanks for your best wishes, and same to you too.

The good thing I can say about this area is it’s unbelievably quiet. Hardly any traffic when heading about and it only took 2 hrs from London.

Orford is only 20 minutes walk away which we’ve done a few times and there are a few Adnams pubs with outdoor areas that seem very quiet. Obviously I can’t be the one to suggest a quick pit stop so we’ll see what happens the next few days.

Would thoroughly recommend the area to anyone with a keen interest in nature. Particularly before any potential works on sizewell c.

Southwold is worth a visit (throwback seaside town) can recommend parking up at Snape Maltings and walk (follow the river) to St. Botolphs church at Iken.

Get to the Unruly Pig if you're up for a good feed, the food is excellent. Sutton Hoo and East Bergholt - Constable country- also worth a look.

I was staying in the Meon Valley, just in Hampshire, in the South Downs last week. Beautiful part of the world. I did a gig just outside Worthing on the Saturday night. Last weekend I was up to Lancaster!

I’d love to try the unruly pig, but sadly eating out isn’t something we can do.

just got back after a day at minsmere and then a wander to iken from the snape maltings (thanks laikinart!)

    A lovely day so far.

Saw my first avocet and bearded tit today.

Though not sure they can eclipse watching a marsh harrier hunt for its breakfast for 20 minutes in the wheat field opposite our cottage this morning.

Congratulations, no I bet it wasn't only seen a marsh harrier once and only for a moment as it swooped over my head whilst walking near Denaby Ings, very impressive sight so what you got to experience must have been fantastic. Not had the pleasure yet of a bearded tit but all ways hoping did get to see a Hobby a few weeks back not far from Clumber park which was a highlight for me personally.

Happy watching and enjoy rest of the holiday, I always enjoy cottage holidaying above others

So many people on the BBS post things like "I saw a bearded tit" or "I saw a yellow crested doodle Hummer" today and I'm stood in the garden thinking "oh look a bird"

Stop worrying so much about what's happening down at Oakwell and immerse yourself in nature instead it's far less stressful and gives far more pleasure and to top it off it's all free

I love nature I just couldn't identify a bird if it came and landed on my shoe. They're just birds to me I like them but I couldn't identify them

That’s cos your gen had actual entertainment as kids. We only had the observer book of birds and going for long walks picking field mushrooms and apple scrumping.
