The primary reason for the rise of the BNP is the abject failure of this damned Labour government and specifically their failure to tackle immigration and asylum. It seemed from Jack Straws bumbling half-arsed PC and obviously prepared answers last night that they are oblivious to the problem which I find absolutely breath-taking. He should have stood up and accepted full responsibility for the rise of the BNP on behalf of the dysfunctional and soon to be out of office Labour party. There are a lot of things I don’t particularly like about the Tories but on the big issues, the issues that matter to me and my family I think they have policies and a plan to implement them. The BNP are fascists who are exploiting the failure of the Labour party to tackle the real issues that this government have failed to do. I believe that once we get a party that is prepared to take on the main ‘real world’ issues that the BNP will slide back under their rocks and once again become a party for extremists with extremists views. Many of the million people who voted for them are normal voters who feel completely let down by the main parties. NB. Lets not forget that Jack Straw was the man who greeted Mugabe with a warm handshake a few years ago then when criticised blamed the light in the room claiming he couldn’t see who's it was whose hand he was shaking. So the chances of him accepting that they have failed us on any policy was zero.
Can't disagree with that one Jack Straw was almost as bad as Griffin last night - his performance went a long way to showing why this country is in such a mess - too many failed Polytechnic lecturers trting to run the country based on their Haralambos
Complete failure of British political elite over the last 60 years But this labour government have taken incompetant immigration strategy to a whole new level... Controlled immigration + sensitive integration = no problem Mass immigration + complete failure to integrate = the complete mess we are in (with British-born terrorists killing our troops in Afghanistan!!!)
That is a pretty decent summing up of the feelings of many. Immigration/asylum is one issue, but it is a massive one because it has a direct effect on every other issue, NHS, benefit system, employment, housing, security etc. And on this issue NEW Labour have failed miserably, to the point of disaster, but then it is not the only thing they have made a disaster of. I can't see things improving under the Tories either. So who do you vote for?
The Labour party have failed on the NHS? Seriously? More funding in real terms since they came to power Waiting lists significantly reduced
RE: It depends what you REALLY want to happen nt On immigration the doors to the country need closing. We are over-crowded, nobody can deny that, so it is lunacy to just keep letting people in. This is regardless of where they come from, what colour their skin is, what religion they are. We must have some idea of what the optimum population of this country is so work to it. Surely that should be justification even for getting around European Law. Or are we all expected to just keep shuffling up, room for one more? Unfortunately it has been left too late in the day, so there needs to be some sort of reduction in population, the govt need to be proactive in removing people who shouldn't be here.
Should we introduce birth controls too then? There are at least 1 million EMPTY properties in the UK, so that is a few to fill up before we are really full up. It's the price we pay for being economically developed. Other peopel look and say "That's a country where I can make somethinh of myself". Some might say, "I'll go and get paid for doing **** all" but that is not a majority. It's like the debate over Polish on building sites working for less than Brits and therefore teh Brits not getting the work. Nobody ever blames the employer who is making an extra few quid from cheap labour do they?
Would there be any need? If we had control of the borders. There are plenty of people here already who could use the housing before we start giving them to people who have just got here. I agree about the employers being a major part of the problem on the cheap labour argument, but it could be said that the amount of immigrants here prepared to work for less drives the market.
Control Always room for manoeuvre. Or maybe it would be another debate about why we don't have enough doctors, dentists, lawyers already? Part of it could be because we are over-crowded.
Before you start blaming employers You need a bathroom fitting - quote 1 (who employes fully trained plumbers from poland) is half the price of quote 2 using more expensive british labour References indicate that the poles have done excellent work elsewhere Which do you choose - be honest? And its too simplistic to link it to immegration either most of our manufacturing jobs have been exported to countries where labour is cheaper. Its completely unrealistic to seal the borders - EU or not. Having said that its hard to see how you could do a worse job on immegration than the current goverment has done
I recently applied for a contract in the NHS The manager - who to be fair to him was a decent lad - admitted they were 25 years behind best practice. The contract was to help them bring a department forwards in their operating processes by 5 years. Not an unreasonable objective...small steps to make progress - not too ambitious-keep objectives acheiveable. the timescale to implement the project - 5years. So I queried whether he realised that at the end of the process he would be 25 years behind best practice I asked him how he got up in the morning knowing how futile his job was. I didn't get the contract.
What should our maximum population be then? And what happens after you have closed the borders and it continues to rise and exceed your established maximum? Culls? Voluntary suicide? Forced repatriation? Move the Jews to Madagascar?
RE: Should we introduce birth controls too then? Controlled immigration doesn’t mean closing the borders and locking it shut. Its about controlling the entry and making sure we ask ‘what can you offer this country’ rather than ‘what do you want to take from this country’. And why do we need to control birth? Under controlled immigration there is no need for birth control as people still die. Having said that looking at the state of deterioration in family values and the exploitation of the welfare state I think there is a good argument for a form of birth control however this is a different argument. Basically I have no issue with a couple wanting as many kids as they want provided they don’t expect me to pay for them. Limit state support to 1 or 2 children and see how many people then want to have big families. It would be those who wanted them for genuine reasons, i.e. love and not those who wanted them for financial reasons.
