Credit to Jim O'Brien, had a fantastic game again, and is twice the player he was last season. Always seemed to have the ability and work rate, but it never seemed to come off for him, but he's certainly making an impact this season, my man of the match today. I'm a big fan of Andy Gray's, however I often feel he is wasted up front on his own, but with the service he's recieving from midfield, especially the wide areas, he's coming into his own a little bit, comgratulations on goal's number 100 and 101 of your career Andy. Another improved player, Stephen Foster. After a couple of average seasons, I feel Fozzy is truly back to his best, if not better than he was when he was named player of the year. Made 3 or 4 cracking interceptions in dangerous areas to thwart an otherwise average Coventry attack. Luke Steele, the obvious first name on the teamsheet. Didn't have much to do admittedly, but still managed to make 2 world class saves, for me he's our biggest asset and we'd do well to hold onto someone who is fast becomming a very acomplished and experienced goalkeeper. Of Hill's signings, I thought Jimmy McNulty had a decent game at centre half; I like Jimmy because he looks very comfortable on the ball. Made a decent run in the middle of the park in order to give Wiseman the ball in space towards the end of the game (may have even been in the build up to the 2nd goal). Danny Drinkwater had another solid game in midfield and is fast becomming a main part in what has become a solid midfield. One player I feel we did miss today was David Perkins, especiall with the game goalless, I got the feeling it just needed someone with his bite to get the game going, and he's going to be a big loss for us during his time injured. Vaz Te had a decent 2nd half, and when fully fit, could be very valuable to the club. On the whole, a comfortable victory, where did little more than we needed to, with a team riddled with injury; it was almost vital we came out with a win today, but the lads didn't dissapoint. One dissapointment, the poor attendance again, 9,490ish, about 300 more than I predicted. The club are fully justified in categorising games on the evidence of the last three home matches.
Thought Doyle slotted in for Perkins well. Wouldn't say we missed him, although I would pick him every time.
I agree that O'Brien deserved MOM today. I'm coming round to thinking he should be on the team sheet when we have a fully fit squad Not least because if this is the entertainment business, then he IS entertaining. In a poor man's Di Canio lookalike kind of way
My man of the match was Drinkwater, he's the best box to box midfielder we've had in a long time. I totally agree on O'Brien. His will to win stands out - he doesn't always get it right but he never hides, and his crossing at crucial times has been fantastic this season. That ball in was undefendable. Foster is in my opinion in the best defensive form of his BFC career. Long may this continue.
I couldn't go today due to work commitments but its fantastic sat here reading about who was m.o.m today, and by the sound of things any number of our players could have got it, love it!
Andy Gray ... ... played well, scored his 100th league goal & was the feature player in the programme. I thought O'Brien & Drinkwater were very good. We chose Gray because of the goals & the landmark. After a very dull first half I really enjoyed the day. It was my 1st match of the season. My only negative comment is that we really need a big, combative, ball-winning centre half. Clive Platt threw all our defenders around like rag dolls when he came on. Top day, top result & Dirk was wearing a Coventry shirt.
