rather than a GP & Consultant Cardiothoracic surgeon there would have been more of a song & dance made about leaving bairns alone on a holiday complex?

....... there is a pic of the McCanns where their expression and look in their eyes is IDENTICAL to the expression and look in his eye of Ian Huntley. That popular pic of him that was regularly shown. Creepy.</p>

It was pretty slow for news at the time as well.

It seemed the media outlets were looking for a story to push.

But they admitted to leaving 3 bairns under 4 alone in a locked holiday apartment. What if there had been a fire FFS!

I seem to remeber the press were allus far more snide to Kerry Needham, mother of Ben Needham who was snatched in Greece. But there again she was only a single mum rather than a pillar of the community. She hadnt left him alone either.

Mr Ali & I have been blessed enough to bring up 2 bairns to adulthood. Yes we went abroad wi them when they were little. Not once were they left alone. They either came out wi us or we stayed in - simple as

 

IMHO - they are partially culpable

Kids are a permenant responsibility, not one to be left when you want a romantic dinner.

Still a tragedy & I dont believe they have harmed her in anyway but they behaved inadvisedly leaving them

Have two young un's myself, and though it gets harder to keep an eye on them as they get older, I'd never do anything to make the task more difficult.

I would leave my kids alone in a room like that.

They've never been left with anyone other than family or a registered nursery. I'm fortunate that grandma lives a few streets away, so I don't need to ask anyone other than grandma, but if she's not free ... we stay home, end of, even though there are friends and people we know and trust who would probably help out if asked.

There hasn't been one post even attempting to defend or sympathise with the Mcanns. Says alot that doesn't it?

 

Exactly. When I heard the first news report ......

........ my immediate reaction was .... 'why the hell have they left their kids in a holiday apartment on their own?' ...... and I was amazed that it was reported that they were ...... 'only a few hundred yards away having a meal and had kept going back from time to time to check on them'. I'm sorry that's just not good enough.

I find it very hard to believe that they have harmed Maddy but by the same token they have certainly got away with the 'bad press' that others have had for leaving kids on their own.

 

If its someone not known to the kid ,

I am astounded that someone hasnt been arrested already as they must surely have some previous for at least looking at kids suspiciously.</p>

Family member or friend they met on holiday for me.</p>

 

Mine are 19 & 17

and I still wish I could keep an eye on their every move!

well, as i have stated on here before, i have every sympathy for maddie, but if they werent in the professions they are in, they would have been hammered in the press, and the other kids removed by social services. ence the comment about munchausens.
perhaps that is one reason why they havent come back yet.
a while ago a woman left her kid to go on holiday, no harm came to him, granted it wasnt the right thing, but she was hammered by the press.
