From the Millwall song .......

"No one likes us, we don't care" and that should be our song...

and to be honest I don't give a flying **** about the mainstream papers, local radio and TV stations, they never give us any credit but thats what coming from Barnsley is all about. That's why we all stick together and put a massive two fingers up to the lot of em.

The only time we got any 'positive' publicity was when we got into the Premiership and it was patronising at best, and focussed on the likes of Michael Parkinson and Dickie Bird with the Barnsley Main headgear in shot and the Hovis advert music playing in the background!

Let the lads do the talking on the pitch and we'll all enjoy ourselves along the way, then when we get promoted we can all say a massive **** OFF to the papers and Calender and Look North and the rest of the short-sighted wnakers

Maybe its just because we don't court publicity that much. When Ridsdale was on board, our profile rose, not just because of who our chairman was but because he was media savvy.

I don't think the current administration are that bothered whether the press continually write about us, or maybe they are just not skilled in that area.

Either way, so long as we keep winning on the pitch I ain't that bothered

    Oh yes!

Hallam FM - Rotherham are getting a huge amount of help through Hallam at the moment in helping raise the funds needed to survive. Theres advertisments every two minutes with numbers to phone/text to donate money. But...They didnt give Barnsley the same treatment through our administration - Tossers! RealRadio from now on.

TheStar (Barnsley Edition) We get half of the back page if were lucky. Also we get a poor match report inside compared to most other South Yorkshire teams. Theres always more infomation on the super Millers, than Barnsley.

    Thats the bit I don't get ....

.... I sort of understand why the 'massive' Sheffield clubs get the publicity but why we come behind Rotherham, Donny and Chesterfield in the publicity pecking order has always baffled me!

Whilst I have no gripe with Rotherham, it is hacking me off that they are in the news every 5 minutes when there was little said about our plight 2 years ago.

Rotherham's problem is that the bulk of Rotherham folk don't give a monkeys about their team so it matters not how much the rest of South Yorkshire and beyond rallies around them, they will always be in the *****!

We do have a write up somewhere in there! Its still a pathetic one considering our result.

    Sheff Utd - 2 pages.

    Donny - 1 page.

The Super Millers - 2 pages. (ok its against Chesterfield, but they do get a better match report than us anyhow.)

    Wednesday - 2 pages.

    Barnsley - a 3rd of a page.

    It's always been the same.....

I can well remember when we stuffed Leeds 2-1 at Elland Road in their promotion season, thus gaining a 'double' over our 'big rivals'. The following evening on Calendar they refused to show the goals and highlighted clips focused on them hitting the crossbar and having a goal disallowed.
Another thing that pisses me is the 'battling Barnsley' tag we always seem to be dubbed with.

"Battling Barnsley" is a saying that came from our cup run in 1912.....

and that is true. We played summat like 5 replays against the previous winners Bradford and from then on we were know as battling barnsley!!

A full 93 years later and we are still called it!!

    We crashed the elite party

like a vagrant at Buck House

Dont think the media have ever forgiven us!

If Wigan go back down ever it will be the same. Either heaps of opprobrium or ignored as the media are embarrassed about feting them during their moment in the sun.

    Opprobrium

    noun {U} FORMAL

    severe criticism and blame:

    - International opprobrium has been heaped on the country following its attack on its neighbours.

    That clears that up then!

Given what we've been like recent seasons then I'm not too concerned if we get called "battling Barnsley" - it's been missing for a while.
