I won't repeat what has already been said but what shoddy defending all round. The two in the centre had decent games yesterday and Boxing Day but the two full backs might as well have not been on the pitch. The second one is the worst with Kennedy emerging timidly from the area but not wanting to get too close to the man bearing down on him. O'Brien did his best to catch up but he had no chance. And then there is our Gibraltarian international who, rather than sticking to his man on the far post (hey, maybe even JUMPING UP to head away!), actually ran in the opposite direction giving Martin a free header. Literally Scott Free. I despair watching things like that. There must be two better defenders already at the club, never mind out there in the loan or buying market. Thankfully we stepped up the pace in the second half and I was genuinely excited watching a lot of what we were trying to do. Cywka's goal was amazing but I would add a bit of criticism there. The two Derby defenders didn't try too hard to stop him - old mates of his maybe? Felt sorry for us? It was a great run but how come he didn't get chopped down? That is what has been happening all season whenever one of our players has had the audacity to run with the ball. Perhaps he was just too fast - he really was motoring it has to be said. Sensational goal anyway and one that should have sparked another one, then perhaps a winner. But, as ever, we spurned the best chance of the whole match when Wiseman played a perfect ball in to COG who didn't get his head down and just ballooned it over the bar. I was desperately hoping that we would get one right at the end with all the home fans streaming out of the ground with at least TEN minutes to go (why do people do that with the match on a knife edge?) and the Derby hordes crowing their way to the final whistle. An equaliser was deserved, but it never came. You know what is coming next of course - a tonking at Birmingham and again next Saturday against one of our bogey teams. Coventry will probably have more fans in the ground than us and Danny's reign will have got off to a truly disastrous start. On the other hand............5-0 to us at St Andrews and go through to the Fourth Round of the cup. Dreaming
Yup Tell you summet though, back end of second half, it was like end of last year. TK playing those low balls down line to COG who was then holding defenders off and laying ball off.........first times I've seen shades of those performances from last term
Yes I saw that as well but would rather NOT see COG constantly down the touchline, back to goal, waiting for a ball to lay off to somebody else. He should be where he was for that last minute chance, not out wide. He missed it, and missed it badly, but give him enough chances in the box and he will score more than he misses. But if he's not there.....well, it's obvious isn't it? I thought we had a proper centre forward when I first saw him and will not be too hard on him, yet. But he needs to pick up his game again before he starts getting people on his back.
