Barry Murphy-late late stand in for SD who was "watching a player" -said:

"If we finish 5th from bottom it will have been a successful season"-he was commenting on the strength of the Championship and our relative place in it

I've known Barry since I was a kid

But watching him in action on Saturday afternoon in the exec suites I think he's losing the plot.

Well that aint what PC said not long ago, and IMHO if thats the best opinion Murphy can give he should keep his gob shut. People are not going to keep paying good money to see a side with that kind of ambition nor are we going to hold onto any decentplayers if thats what we call success.

The club allows a representative to say finishing 5th bottom is an achievement, yet some of us (me included) slated Howard for moving to the Blunts.

Barry Murphy insisted all along that they were HIS opinions

and did not represent the club.

He was there as an ex-player, not as a club Representative.

We criticise if someone toes the party line, and criticise when they say what they think.

RE: Barry Murphy insisted all along that they were HIS opinions

so why did the club put him there instead of Davey if he wasnt representing the club at a BFC supporters meeting....?

RE: club employee or not...? nt

on matchdays-what I was trying to get over was he wasn't imposed on the meeting by the club

and he was careful to make the point that he was simply giving his own personal view

an employee of the club on club premises should be careful when giving out their personal opinion at an official meeting.

Gerald Ratner anyone?

Bet Pat Crynes thrilled with comments like that.

Please please please don't start a witch hunt against BM - he's a legend!

It's his opinion
Not the club
Stupid stupid responses to a great thread
Appreciate his honesty.
And agree totally

well said that man...................

the way in which things are said can have a great bearing on how they are perceived-those at the meeting will know what I mean

Cheers Paul - I just know what some people who post on here are like

Opinions are great - but witch hunts by the feckless are pointless and could be damaging

Not equally realistic. AR seemed to think it would be ok for us to drop down to League 1 as this was our 'historical position'!

Total legend - Barnsley through and through

I'll never forget his goal kicks - yup - full backs took goal kicks in the 70's bizarre as it seems now ....
Plus his short corners with Ali Millar
Great days never EVER to be repeated sadly - Oakwell at it's best ( no best football ) but the smell of ale behind the west stand, changing ends at half time - brilliant childhood memories of going to the gams and EXPLORING Oakwell.
Not the best player ever but made up for it spades and a true gent to boot
