Personally I look forward to it as I'm not a smoker and don't like passive smoking or smelling of fags. I've just come back from Edinburgh and the pubs were heaving, everyone having a good time....but no smoke. I didn't see that many congergated at doors smoking either. It does get slightly daft as the ban extends to.....phone boxes (was talking to someone who got fined for smoking in one).
One side effect is however.....that the nightclubs and pubs that have carpets really stink as there is no *** smell to mask the stench of rancid spilled beer.

Taxi drivers can't smoke in their cars. Couriers can't smoke in their own cars while on a job. People that use a van for their OWN business can't smoke in them, (eg plumbers) Hotels and B&Bs are also no smoking, tourism is down. Lorry drivers can't smoke in the cabs. It's all getting a bit silly now.
I don't get the tourism is down bit. And I've always thought taxi drivers shouldn't be allowed to smoke.
I don't agree that tourism is down due to it....unless you can back that up.....but I do agree that the lorry drivers thing is going a bit far. That said is it safe to smoke and drive if its not safe to eat and drive?
RE: I don't get the tourism is down bit. Been up to the Hebrides twice since the ban, and both the Hotel and B&B owner say their trade is down on pre-ban custom. Seems some folk are plain staying away. Anyway, gotta go, off to the shops for some ciggies, someone has to pay for the NHS!
RE: I don't get the tourism is down bit. I haven't come across any research that suggests tourism is down due to the smoking ban.....and I teach tourism management.
Lorry drivers should NOT be allowed to smoke ... the damage they might do to hitch-hikers could be devastating.
Anyone know What the situation is going to be regarding football stadiums? I'm assuming smoking will be banned throughout (except on the pitch - which isn't enclosed (with one exception)).
