I would be happy to run another Footy Challenge competition for next season 2007-08 if people would be interested in joining.

Last year’s was ok and a bit of fun, but it had its limitations. It didn’t allow people to get involved, and as a result, it didn’t create much excitement. Most of all it didn’t provide the chance to try and change your destiny once the games had started.

So, I’ve come up with the basis of a revised format. It’s based on the same principle but it will give players much more flexibility to play the game successfully and make changes if things aren’t going well.

Once again it would be run on a league table format, but this time the award of points would be changed to reflect those of a proper League. It’s also based on actual gate forecasts - as well as a stab at the seasonal average figure. These would not be “every week” forecasts, but the format would allow you more leeway to pick up points. In effect you would be “playing” 46 league games, home and away, picking up points as you go along.

It will involve you being able to submit more than one forecast, so you can cover the prospect of high and low attendance fixtures, and this time it will have nothing to do with how many other players are nearer to the gate figure than yourself.

You would also get a number of opportunities to make changes if things aren’t going so well.

    count me in

my only criticism of last year is that being a thicko I thought we were trying to predict the seasonal average and as such people who ultimately were very close to this figure got few points during the season.
