Apart from the football my weekend has been a bit **** so far, and it certainly doesn't feel like it's only a couple of days until Christmas...

So I thought I'd start a thread where we could all post our favourite Christmas tunes and get in the festive mood and have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. I'll get the ball rolling with this rocking Kinks classic...

Without wanting to change the subject Tomi, last Xmas I managed to catch 'Rare Exports' on Channel 4, and really enjoyed it. How did it go down in your neck of the woods (would have said Scandinavia but I know the Finns are a bit touchy about that)! :)

Haha, I thought that "Rare Exports" was really good as well. Very bizarre, but in a funny way. :) I don't think it was a huge blockbuster success in here (or anywhere), some uptight people of course thought that it was tasteless and horrible - probably the same people who complain about reindeer meat being on sale during Christmas - but I remember it getting pretty good reviews and a lot of awards and stuff.

Really enjoyed it, like most horror/thrillers the best part was the build up to the 'monster' appearing, after that it was pretty much the usual formulaic stuff.

With that in mind have you got any other recommendations?

Great call with SFA Tomi. Not the most obvious of xmas songs but a great song by a great band!
I'm going with the often ignored xmas 'classic' by Kurtis Blow.

Haha Zebedee, I've never heard that before, but that's quite awesome.

Speaking of SFA, have you heard Gruff Rhys's "Atheist Xmas EP"?

Yes I have. Lovely traditional xmas vibes with lyrics such as "slashed wrists this Christmas / Lifeless and listless". Typically good songs by Gruff though. I enjoyed Neon Neon's album this year. Not up there with his very best but always good to hear Gruff.

    Yup, it's a great little EP! :D

I found the new Neon Neon album a bit disappointing at first, but it has really grown on me. I think I even prefer it to their first now. It's still way too short though (even with the accompanying "Years of Lead" EP)...

I also bought the new Cian Ciaran album ("They Are Nothing Without Us") this year. It's not as good as some of his SFA compositions, but it has its moments... You might want to check it out if you haven't already.

Oh, and according to my profile at Last.fm "Goodbye Falkenburg" is my most played album of 2013, so thanks for recommending that one to me! I've learned to like "Furniture" too (actually I just ordered it from Amazon today!), there are some amazing tunes on it as well!

I bet it would only take a few thousand purchases of Timerider off iTunes to get that in the top 40!
