Does anyone know if the pub has re-opened after its refurbishment? Also, does it still stock real ale or has it been turned into a desert? Also, is it still a reasonably quiet pub in terms of music or do you need to shout into each others ears to make yourself heard now?
Didn't know it had shut Last time I went in me and my made commented on how tired it looked but it was so empty (and in such a state) we figured no-one would stump up the money required to turn it around.
Last time I was in to watch the Stoke match Someone told me that it was due to shut the following weekend, I think it was, for about 3 weeks. Obviously on that timescale it'll have been open for a while but you know how these things have a habit of dragging on! I'm meeting a mate in town on Saturday night & we were looking for somewhere to meet that serves decent beer. Personally I don't fancy the Bramah on a weekend evening as, based on prior experience, they have the music that loud it could make the furniture bleed! The Gatehouse isn't an option to meet up in either due to the steps.
No idea then mate. You might try upstairs in the Brammah - it seems to be quieter up there (music wise, not necessarily people-wise). There is a lift.
Strange you should mention the lift I saw it for the first time when I was in last. Up until then I thought it was an urban myth!
Courthouse recently opened after a £££ refurb...same layout just looks bigger...lots of plasma tvs and some background music... not an ale fan myself but I noticed they have some handpulled stuff on....looked more mainstream stuff like XB....didnt see any bishops nob or owt like that.... nice atmosphere not rammed full of £3 bottle commandos....and better service than Bramahs.. Thanks all Looks like we'll be kicking off there then & assuming we don't get too comfortable, maybe take in the Gatehouse before the toilets become a consideration & upstairs in the Bramah. (pint)
Reckon they will have the Barnsley match on Sunday? If so, will the place get chocka, or will that be limited to Tarn centre?
Not sure That was part of my reasoning for wanting to go there on Saturday, to see how the land lies for Sunday! When they showed the Cardiff & Stoke games earlier in the season, there was probably more people in than average but it was hardly crowded. That may well have changed though, depending on how the townies view the pub after the revamp.
