I wonder if they might take a detour down a local pit to see how much coal is still down there. THE route the Olympic torch will take through Barnsley has been outlined in full below. The flame arrives at Pontefract Road, Lundwood at 1.25pm on June 25 and torchbearers will carry the torch along the A628 to Cundy Cross roundabout at approximately 1.44pm. The torch will then arrive at the Grove Street junction of Pontefract Road at 1.48pm and proceed to pass the Town Hall at 1.58pm, via Kendray Street, Eldon Street and Market Hill and then travel along Church Street, where they will stop at Barnsley College at 2pm. The flame will start its journey again at 3pm, heading along Church Street onto the A635 Huddersfield Road, until it reaches the junction of Rowland Roadat 3.18pm. Finally, at 3.21pm the Torchbearers will reach Barnsley Road (A637) and head towards Darton. At 3.31pm the Torchbearers will turn left onto Churchfield Lane and travel up Ballfield Lane, before leaving the borough at 3.46pm. The council is working with schools and community groups to line the route and celebrate the arrival of the Flame in Barnsley, including street athletics in the town centre. Many local roads will be closed to allow the route procession to take place.
I'm going it to see it outside the old sixth form building. Hopefully the crowds won't be too big round there.
Looking at those times they had better hope there's a bus due, 4 mins to get from Cundy Cross to the bottom of Grove Street, lets hope its not one of the old boys from Lundwood WMC carrying it...
