Oh wait, 8 wins from 12! All is forgiven. Premier League get ready. But seriously good to see some belief back in the team and key players looking like they are enjoying their football once again. Hope is that we keep this group together and big Val isn't poached. Add a couple in January and top half finish would be outstanding.
The owners did a disastrous job going into last season. They've done better since last Jan - long may it continue!
They've picked 3 managers who have all been universally liked by the fan base, when was the last time that happened?
January will be a huge test for them. If they manage to stave off interest for the likes of Woodrow, and invest a little into the squad where it is needed(i.e. back the manager!), then I feel they will have earned some of the fans trust they lost back again. Persuading Mowett to sign a new contract would be good too...
We where the second club the owners had got with probably very little knowledge of football as to why they sold nice We are on a 3 game winning streak and in top 10 Thun or second 9 games unbeaten Oostande have a chance of been in european football next season I think they have got it sorted now
There's also the issues with Oakwell that need sorting out - wouldn't be hyperbole to suggest there's the potential to actually ruin our club there!
The one thing the owners have been great at is bringing in head coaches that do well. Even their one and only flop Morais could have kept us up as we only went down on the last day.
I wonder how many of them people who said......... that's it never going again ....I've stopped even checking scores ...,......been shopping with the wife , blah blah blah , have now started taking a interest in the club again
Yes, James Cryne deserves a lot of credit for rebalancing the transfer methodology and for coming up with a formula that seems to find decent coaches. As far as I'm aware, Conway hasn't been seen for a long time and seems to prefer doing 1 kick up at Ostend and Chien Lee must be on holiday with Lord Lucan. They are still being sued for allegedly breaching payment terms for the club. They haven't retracted their threat to leave Oakwell which was done in general media and not to the fans. And the Stendel sacking and how they dealt with it has generated no apology. The playing side is working much better than the "most successful window ever" so if they've realised they are better leaving it to Murphy and Cryne, thats a positive. But let's not put winning 3 matches in a row at the feet of those who haven't fulfilled their contractual obligations. They'll claim every undue positive they can get and spin it for their next club in distress. Its the players and Ismael that deserve the credit.
Great post. Thank goodness we're still in reasonable shape despite the pandemic. Put that down to good management by Dane and his management team and to all the supporting staff. Makes me proud of the club and privileged to be a fan. Despite all the intense criticism the Board have had on here, thank goodness they've stuck with it to the point where we're at today. Good managerial appointments, excellent recruitment of young, talented, hungry young players, and patience in developing their model for the future. I've preached patience and perspective on here ever since they arrived. Thousands of fans have stuck with the club in the knowledge that it was going to take time. Were still building even now but the direction is clear and the patience seems to be paying off. I guess we're at first base now by, hopefully, achieving Championship survival. That would be progress and I guess that the long term objective will be to progress beyond that. Baby steps. We might be walking soon.
lets put it down to them being on a learning curve, I mean who would have thought that adding a bit of experience was the answer!?
Keep grounded people. 2 injury time winners in last 2 games of last season plus Wigan's 12 points deduction kept us up. Things could quite easily have been so very very different.
Patience has always been the key. I thought some of the criticism the owners got previously was very unfair. The majority of the big name players we've lost in recent years weren't signed under their stewardship. I always felt it was a little unfair to judge them because of that. Relegation in the first season wasn't ideal. Morais was a disastrous appointment, however I feel he may have been merely a placeholder until one of our preferred targets was available. I've always said that to progress and make our rigid wage structure work, we needed to do 3 things: 1) sign players to 3/4 year deals, or get existing players to commit to a longer contract 2) be promoted immediately back to the championship 3) stay up in our first season back in the championship I could see that if we could get promoted and stay up, in their first two full seasons in charge, with a squad full of players on long term contracts, we would finally start to see progress. We're now in a position where, if we do decide to sell players, we can command a bigger fee. We don't need to constantly sell 4 or 5 good players every year to generate a transfer budget for next year. We can start to build a squad around 3 or 4 good players, who aren't likely to be leaving any time soon. Again, the board isn't without their criticism, and they were naive to think that we were going to be competitive last season, after signing 12 players with about 120 pro games between them as experience. But the budget has increased, and we're seeing a step up in quality of players coming in (Helik and Sollbauer with EL experience, Brittain with 100+ games under his belt etc). I think there's a lot to get excited about. But it's how we handle the transfer windows that dictates where we're going.
I think that those of us who purchased season tickets, in the knowledge that we may well not attend any games, need to take some credit too. We’ve demonstrated our willingness to put our hands in our pockets at this difficult time.
There's no room in the pro 80% mob's camp, if any becomes available its ticket only. Even Wath and West Melton's trying to get in, once we've signed an hairy arsed striker.
