I was actually in St Peter's Square and in the Vatican with the missus the day that Pope Benedict was elected. We had arranged our holiday in Italy a while before and were spending a few days in Rome. My wife was heavily pregnant at this time and was looking forward to the second week of the holiday, relaxing in Amalfi. Anyway, for those who haven't been to Rome it is fab and there is plenty to see. On the day of the Pope's election we walked over to the Vatican and were quite overwhelmed at the amount of nuns and priests in one place (neither of us are religious, but we appreciate good art and architecture). We actually wanted to have a nose around the Sistene Chapelbut managed to be in Rome for the first time in 26 years that it was closed to the public! Anyway, the white smoke wasn't forthcoming, it was very hot, my wife was very tired and all the seats were reserved for the visiting dignitaries, so we wandered off. We got back to our hotel late afternoon and turned the TV on to see that the new Pope was about to get unveiled. I was pretty sure that at breakfast that morning we had a clear view of the Vatican from the roof terrace, but the wife didn't think so and we couldn't be bothered to walk up a few flights of stairs to check. So we watched it on telly. Of course, the next morning at breakfast we had a lovely view of the Vatican balcony...
Charlie Brooker fan? My favourite show on telly at the moment. Don't know if I could sell it to someone who hasn't seen it though. This really miserable bloke shows some clips of things that have happened in the last week, tells some puerile jokes and treats the viewer like some **** he's found on his shoe. It looks like it's been put together for about 20p and no one on the show gives a ****. All in all, brilliant. It's odd that they've moved it to BBC 2. BBC 4, on which his other series were broadcast, seemed more like its natural home.
Love it. His review of the year show is the best thing on tv. The weekly stuff isn't quite as good cos its pulled together quicker with less source material but still better than anything else on the box
Love it. Between that and Black Mirror he is a proper genius. although to be fair the last Black Mirror of this series was absolute cat ****.
Recorded the final Black Mirror, but haven't watched it yet. Really enjoyed the first two, but I've got a bit of a problem with the second one. A woman who filmed a child being tortured and murdered has to live the same day over and over again for the rest of her life in which she is hunted down while the general public film her every move but refuse to help her. She then has her memory wiped and has to do it all again the next day. Brilliant idea. The baying masses on here would love it. So, do we do that for every criminal? Bit expensive. Charlie just hasn't though it through. From the two series of Black Mirror the one I liked the most was the one that Charlie Brooker didn't write. Third episode of the first series where everyone could record everything they ever did and play it back. Although maybe I'll like the cat **** one.
Yep that was my favourite too. Although really liked the first one of this series too. Proper thought provoking. All very dark though.
I'd like to think I'd be having happier thoughts if I'd married Konnie Huq. I'm a long standing CB fan.
If I'd married Konnie Huq the only thing I'd be thinking for the rest of my life would be "******* Hell, I've married Konnie Huq! How did I manage that? What a result." Particularly if I'd got a head like Charlie Brooker's..
