On Radio 5 this evening they were speaking to one of the postal workers representatives who said that they were unhappy about deductions from their wage for the strike days. Not that they were being deducted 4 days pay as they accepted that, but when it was deducted.
Apparently they were supposed to be deducted 2 days pay on consecutive weeks but all 4 days came out of one weeks.

Instead of being deducted 2 days in week 1 and 2 days in week 2, they got full pay in week 1 and had the deduction in week 2.

So I don't understand their complaint, they got paid early so would have known to expect lower the following week....may have been a problem had the full deduction come out in week 1!

And in Edinburgh and Grangemouth they actually came out on strike over it!

    They should all be shot

perhaps a slight overreaction, but how can any postie possibly think this strike will do them any good?

I was told that strikes will never do anygood if those striking don't have any public sympathy. It seems this is the case with the posties.

If it was State Owned we wouldn't have had these problems...

All this crap about the Posties

Saying they should not be able to strike, because it disrupts the country, THATS what a strike is supposed to do!
If it does not affect the running of things, then it will not do any good, if by making the rest of the people in the country endure a bit of discomfort, the posties have achieved their aim and its up to the Post Office management to sort it out.

I cant see why the posties are up in arms about things really tho`, seems like they need to accept ,that some reorganisation is needed and got down to sorting it out with the PO. The management have cocked it up big style too, they tried to force through the changes with out any dialogue with the workers.

so it was fine for the miners to strike and the rest

despite people losing life when fires were not tended during the fire strike, old folks homes going without heat in the pit strike, filth and disease building up in the bins strike...but because you do not get your readers digest or damart book on time thats not ok.

Agree with that mate. They certainly dont get any sympathy from me. I dont know all the ins and outs of it but it seems that the posties are striking because the Royal Mail are trying to be more efficient and actually get something out of the posties for what they get paid to do. For too long has being a postie been a cushy number, and I can vouch for this as I have had many a friend work as a postie and they all went on about what a 'screw' it was.

Have you even read my post?

That is what I have been told by people who have worked as posties. I have heard many a story from posties about how they finish early and are in the pub while still getting paid. And don't give me all that weather crap, we all have to go out in the weather. If you dont like working in the elements, dont get a job that is outside.
