After reading a thread about Mr Moyes and what he thinks was a transfer Fee for John Stones I thought I would make this post. I read a lot of here of what people think the managers do and I don't think this is the case. The managers rarely will fully understand a players contract or Transfer fee and lets face it why should they? By not knowing what a players on per year say it wouldn't affect their judgement of a player. Also by not been fully in the loop they can't take that information to another team to use their against the managers previous team. Their are positives for the manager too, he spends far more time out on the training pitch and watching games of Football for scouting purposes rather than in a office talking about numbers. Some managers are open about this fact. I've also heard CEO's talk about this in the past.
I would have thought a manager would have to know that so he knows how much of his playing budget is being eaten up
From listing to what Johnson/ Mansford's said and other footballing people they set lists and they are told yes or no if they can afford them.
But surely they'd have to know more details so that they know what players to target. If we can only afford another 1k a week then I as manager wouldn't keep asking to sign a player who I know will want around 5k
