I didn't watch the game as I live oversees (I went to see Batman V Superman instead and wish I'd not bothered). I'm delighted with the win and new-look England are showing some form ahead of a major tournament for once. I think if you look at the team tonight and likely team for the Euros then you can see, probably for the first time, the effect the premierleague is having on the national side. This would be my starting line up for the opening game (assuming Shaw and Wlishere don't make it). Hart Clyne Stones Smalling Rose Dier Barkley Alli Kane Vardy Sterling If you look at that lineup how many of those players came through the ranks at a leading Premierleague side, got an opportunity and played their way into the national side? Barkley, Rose, Sterling possibly. And Sterling was discovered by QPR. Barkley was loaned out so many times as was Kane. Hart, Dier, Smalling, Stones, Vardy, Alli were all products of lower league academies or non league, or even oversees in Dier's case. I think this trend will continue as England can't rely of the usual premierleague conveyor belt of talent.
What did that game finish? Batman vs Superman? In all seriousness, I think the main thing is that all these players are still in their early to mid 20s and are yet to peak. England could easily get 3 tournaments out of the same squad of players (considering they all stay at the top of their game) and that can only be a good thing considering the wide range of clubs they play for. Don't forget there are also 4 ex Barnsley players involved with this current crop of England youngsters too!!
