Read far much more about Papiss Cisse and Johnny Evans, rather than a good news story like Jonas Gutierrez making his return since recovering from cancer.
Did you watch the game? The noise was incredible when he came on. He clearly wasn't up to speed fitness wise (for obvious reasons) and hacked down Juanuzaj to get booked within about 30 seconds. Brilliant.
Football pundits don't help coming out with stuff like "spitting is the worst offence on the field". What? worse than having your leg snapped in two, or your skull fractured? I don't think so. Whilst it's not nice, I'd sooner have a tiny bit of spit on me than be physically injured.
I didn't, to be honest I was referring more to the media. I did read that he got a standing ovation from all sides of the stadium which was good.
With Morgan/Hume case excused elbowing and two footed lunges are part of the game and can't always be helped but spitting? It's just vile, I can't stand watching people spit on the floor never mind in someone's face.
I get what you're saying but taking out the extremes I would personally rather be punched than spat it.
But literally in the space of a week we've got players spitting at each other in one game and an off the field incident with a player having sex with an underage girl. Football really is the lowest end of moral decency. Should just give up on the idea of players being role models.
I quickly lost count of the number of times I was cynically brought down on a football field. And the number of times I was elbowed. Or kicked when the ref wasn't looking. I guess I got in to about half a dozen brawls before I stopped playing having ****** my back up. I can't bring to mind anyone who fouled me or kicked me or elbowed me or even punched me. I got spat at once. His face his etched on my brain and I still want to kill him.
Hmmm, the bloke who broke my nose with a flying elbow is still etched on my mind. Get your point though.
Thankfully I never had that happen to me, but when I played, I had challenges that put me out of action for a several weeks, and also challenges that put me on crutches. I'd take what Evans did last night,(no matter how vile) over being physically injured any day of the week.
I guess I was lucky that I never had anything other than cuts and bruises, but the spitting incident was certainly the worst thing that happened to me.
