I hate the ***** as much as the next bloke but you've got to say the squad the have is amazing.... Plus its mostly youngsters showing their worth and they are going to be around for the next decacde... Fabio, Rafeal, Anderson, Welbeck and Macheda.... Things are looking good at Old Trafford.
Indeed, many would say that Fergie isn't treating the cup with respect by playing "non-first choice" players - but I reckon a fair few premiership managers would be happy to have any of those youngsters playing for them week after week.
Same with Wenger at Arsenal, he like to use the cups as a spring board to the first team for youngsters...... Such a contrast to Chelsea and Liverpool how many of their Acadamy sides are putting in claims to first team places??? Perfect example Hammil, goes without saying he will end up leaving Anfeild to get first team football
Strictly speaking are they really academy players ? Not many of them are from this country ... a lot have been developed at continental clubs and then 'poached' to play for Utd. Great players though and it's one hell of a scouting system
Personally I find the gulf in class depressing When Man Utd can put out a reserve side in a cup semi final against a team that has been in the top 7 all season and still come out looking the better side, that's depressing.
RE: Personally I find the gulf in class depressing I think squad sizes should be limited, to prevent those clubs that can afford it, buying up players just so that the rest can't have them. Not saying Man U do this as a lot of theirs are youngsters. I'm thinking more of Sheff U, who especially under Warnock, had a fetish for signing up every single striker that became available.
RE: Personally I find the gulf in class depressing I dont think anyone has done that in the top flight since the first season and half that Chelsea got the Russian Billions!!!!! Remember Wright-Phillips, Bridge, Johnson, Sidwell amongst others that were signed just as squad players!!!!!
