The racist chanting. Don't blame security.

It's difficult to do anything 5 minutes before the end of the game. The stewards have to be in certain positions to open emergency gates etc and the Search and Eject team who would normally go in and hoof these people out are deployed next to the away fans and the referee for obvious reasons. 5 minutes before the end it would cause a serious H+S problem.

Scenario - we send in a team of Search and Eject to get these people detained just as the final whistle goes, a fan runs on the pitch to the referee and assaults him and there are no S+E to stop it. £10,000 fine for the club.

Another - the incident with the QPR goalie and that fan fighting in the back of the net… where were the stewards? Maybe busy dealing with some name-calling.

It's not as simple as it looks and it's important to also look at what DOESN'T happen week in week out.

And finally a little statistic for those who believe the club, Shaun Doyle Security and the police aren't doing enough to eradicate undesirable elements from the crowd -

Barnsley Football Club have more banning orders in place than ANY OTHER CLUB IN OUR DIVISION.

Btw Windy obv knows more than most of us about the work the stewards are doing so I can't comment on that.

On the subject of stewards opening gates

Why do they invariably only open 1 door of a double door? Bottom of the stairs in East Stand for example. Often only 1 of the double gates is open as well.

Stat in brackets is 2003/4 figures. Hold my hands up, that first link didn't contradict it. Knew I'd read somewhere that we weren't the highest. Wendy's were in our league last year and were higher.

So we're third rather than first. Still think Windy's point holds. ie The club are doing summat about things, banning orders are in place, far more so than at many clubs.

How many of the banning orders

are for racist chanting? my guess would be most are for drunk and disorderly or feightin. EVERY SINGLE TIME we play Bradford, the same chant can be heard. am I asking too much to think that the stewards could organise themselves a bit, perhaps plain clothes, cctv cameras, etc to make a visible and recongnisable attempt at sorting these pricks out? I'm asked to show my tickets every time I walk up the end gangway of the East Lower. what does that achieve? f.uck all cos we walk two gangways down and across the bottom.

I also am disgusted by the chants but the honest truth is that the only way to knab the little Enochs is through use of CCTV cameras due to evidence needed for any court case to be taken seriously. I agree we need to stamp this out or go back to the days in the late 80's when black players called BFC fans the most racist in the country. The problem lies with the amount that are doing it and spotting them with CCTV. How can a security guard (Only a trained bouncer) or group of guards be expected to eject 25-30 morons? It would cause chaos.</p>

 

Are plain clothes invisible?

 

I mean stand near or amongst them

catch them at it. get the cctv evidence, wait til end of game and round them up. f.ucking hell fire......
