There's few crumbs of comfort from the record books. As previously mentioned, the last time we lost 7 league games in a row was in 1959. We went on to lose an eighth and were relegated rock bottom. The only other instance was 6 years earlier in 1953. Seven losses became nine and again we were relegated, 15 points adrift of the rest. That run of 9 straight league defeats is the club record. Both campaigns were in the second tier, making this run in the third tier even more desperate. The one chink of light is that these previous catastrophic runs came at the end of the season, whereas this one gives us 6 months to turn things around.
