I appreciate that there’s no love lost for MDG but was that red card the right decision? I’ve gone no.
I watched the brief highlights last night and on first showing, I was convinced it was. Having watched it again this morning, with the angle the ball is going, it's hard to argue that Roberts wouldn't have been able to cover. There's little contact, same with the penalty, though players are always going to go down in those situations. It's about the referee being brave, but as is often the case, he sided with the league leaders. So no, not a red card for me. Though I needed a second look, which the referee doesn't get. You'd have hoped that with the assistance of technology, he'd have been able to overturn that one though.
I think it's harsh, particularly compared to the foul on Humphrys last week which was much more blatant yet only received a yellow. But I also think MDG deliberately tried to bring him down. Does the fact that MDG fouled with more subtlety mean it should be considered as less of a foul? It shouldn't, no. Was Roberts covering? Maybe, but I think Roberts is behind the pair of them. I still think it's harsh though. A foul and a yellow for me because I'm not convinced it was a clear goal scoring opportunity (I'm not convinced I fully know the rules either). I hope it's the last time I ever see MDG in a Barnsley shirt though. Shocking player who gives a goal away every week. When he doesn't it's only because the opposition have failed to capitalise on one of his huge blunders. Worst ever player to represent us? Maybe not, but the worst to have played so many games.
Looked it to me but it happened so early in the game that it totally ruined it for us, the ref was a Homer a yellow card and a good telling off would have been enough at that stage.Unfortunately the letter of the law was the direction he took, and I’m not sticking up for him thought he was very poor and one sided
Not a red but once again awful defending by a terrible player. Please pack him off in the summer. We’ll never build anything solid defensively with him in the side.
I think you might have misunderstood my post. I deffo thought the red card was out order. It was struggling to be a yellow.
If the situation has been reversed, with our player pulled down, we would have shouted red but expected yellow
Didn't think it was at the time and definitely not on the replay. Don't know what Conor was watching if he thinks it was a red
I think he was pissed off with MDG TBH. Unessessary challenge where it happened and Roberts covering. Lost us the game in the 3rd minute. I've seen enough of that bloke in a Reds shirt TBH. He's become a liability.
Finally watched the highlights. Not really sure if it was even a foul. Assuming it was then, there was cover from Roberts so no red card. Appalling decision. The penalty also look quite soft, one of those that we never get.
