Given we've nothing to play for and we let ourselves down letting Wigan back into the game on Thursday I'm not surprised the refereeing decisions haven't been highlighted more. That said I'm amazed that the others in contention for relegation haven't made more of a meal of it ..... it could have a huge impact on burton, Bristol, Forest and Blackburn. I can understand refs making errors and bad decisions based on angles and how play unfolds but the penalty decision on Thursday night amazed everyone! It's possible the ref saw something for disallowing our goal late on (I didn't) but the penalty appears a pre-determined decision for some reason only the ref knows?
In terms of our disallowed goal, keepers get far too much protection from referees in general and a decision like that isn't uncommon. They have a huge advantage over everyone else in the box in that they're allowed to catch it and challenges on them should be treated the same as with any outfield player. In my opinion it should only be considered a foul if the opposition player intends to take them out and isn't interested in the ball, which is rarely the case. We see it far too often that a little bit of jostling in a crowded penalty area gets given as a foul in favour of the keeper simply because someone else dares to go near them. The penalty against us is hugely frustrating because you can guarantee that would never have been given as a penalty in 90% of our games this season. It's that level of inconsistency that is so difficult to deal with - even between decisions made by the same referee in the same game. An example being failing to book the Cardiff centre half when he was down injured but then showing a yellow to Janko for something which was less of a blatant deliberate foul minutes later. We've definitely had a disproportionate share of decisions going against us this season. That was the 10th penalty given against us this season. We've been awarded 2.
The problem with the argument about other teams feeling aggrieved about our misfortune against Wigan is that Wigan would have an argument against them. Burton, stamp on winnall would have given us a penalty and their centre half carded with a good chunk of the game to go. Birmingham, Roberts sent off when the rule states it's a booking where a penalty is given, this after fouling a player 2 yards offside Forest, we should have had a penalty early doors then Lansbury dives like a salmon Bristol city, elbow straight through winnalls kite which should have been another straight red with a good portion of the game to go. The fact is that the referees seem to be getting weaker as proven by that dope in charge of the Cardiff bottling the 2nd yellow.
If you can't beat em, join em. We must be one of the most honest teams in this league. Nothings going to change in terms of the opponents and officials, so it's up to us to change our approach to suit our own ends. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Do you really think we should? Barnsley FC I think has always been an honest football club is it worth stooping so low and cheating like a lot of other opponents are seemingly ENCOURAGED to do by their Managers-Shame on them-*****.
Hourihane got a player sent off last season by standing on his toe and provoking a reaction. We went on to win the game late on. I can't ever remember anyone complaining at the time. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
The point is that the referring incompetence should not have won them the game and only did because our keeper ****** up not once but twice
Had it not been for the two Davies howlers we'd have been 2-0 up seeing the game out and the penalty may not have happened. Then again Wigan fans probably think their own keeper should have done better for at least one of the ones we scored.
