Lots of indignation on here about Jacob Brown's transfer to Stoke. Some of it about the size of the fee although that has not been announced and some of it directed at the Club for letting him go. It sounds very much as if this was a move engineered by his Agent and one which Brown wants to make. In those circumstances why would the Club have him stay? Football Agents make their money moving their clients from club to club. They need to maintain a constant churn in order to make a living. The reported amounts they make in Premiership transfer deals are obscene and can't be a true reflection of the work they have to put in. Even in our division small fortunes are to be made. Stoke apparently pay silly wages for players and that presumably is what attracts him. I can't see, however, how the move will aid his development as a player and I think it is a real shame that he hasn't shown more loyalty to the Club which has made him
Where has the role of the agent come from? How did the rumour start that Brown didn't want to leave and Howard orchestrated the move? I think we're being a bit harsh on Stoke personally. Michael O'Neill is an impressive manager, got Northern Ireland running through brick walls and punching well above their weight, not long ago were in Europe, some talented players on the books, a couple of good youngsters coming through, decent fan base and stadium, only looking upwards.
Very harsh on Brian Howard. It’s his job to present opportunities for his client. He’s hardly done him a bad turn. Stoke’s a good club with a decent support, a good manager & are gradually moving the big earners on. I’ve no doubt he’ll have at least signed a contract on 3 x the money he’s on now & it’s 2 hours from home & with a hectic schedule he’ll get plenty of opportunities even if he starts the season on the bench. It’s a cracking move for him. We’re under no pressure to sell. He’s got a couple of years on his deal so it’s clear the board want to move him on for the transfer fee been offered.
I think we've been under pressure to sell at least one of our 'stars' purely based on the last six months and the amount of revenue we lost. I thought Brown was always the favourite to depart first this 'Summer'. Also factor in we reduced season ticket prices to the lowest in the Championship and at the last count (might have changed now with us staying up and the finance offer being made available) we'd sold as many as Luton.
Agree , O’Neil has a rebuilding job to do , think someone else posted about Stoke getting rid of players on high wages who weren’t performing and having a detrimental effect in the dressing room . Jacob Brown is a player who gives his best every match ( it’s a matter of opinion wether his best is good enough ) and that’s what Stoke need in their squad at the moment
Is that true though? Just looked at the three promoted clubs Rotherham don't have any season tickets and are doing it on a match by match basis when crowds are allowed. Coventry City are priced lower than us Due to reduced capacity Wycombe have sold only 2,700 (but are more expensive.) Picked a few other clubs about the same size as us Blackburn aren't selling any at the moment until guidelines from EFL become clearer https://www.rovers.co.uk/tickets/season-ticket-terms-conditions/ Preston aren't selling any https://www.pnefc.net/news/2020/august/202021-season-ticket-update/ Huddersfield are the same price as us. Millwall have stopped selling season tickets https://www.millwallfc.co.uk/news/2020/august/club-statement-on-202021-season-tickets/ Not sure where your Luton figure comes from but I think that Barnsley with around 8,000 season tickets sold is pretty good for this division
We put in a chunky discount on a price that was already the joint cheapest in the Championship, or at least one of the three cheapest, from memory. I then called out Luton as they were at 6,700 when we were at 7,000 but did acknowledge that could change with us staying up and introducing the pay monthly offer. Regardless we're probably down over £1 million in revenue from season ticket sales. Selling a player to balance the books and help with recruitment was nailed on in my opinion.
Good point. I was thinking no pressure to sell in the sense that he’s got 2 years left on his contract but can’t argue with that
Actually I believe very few took up the 10 year one however after I last posted I googled their season ticket prices & some of there tickets are over £800 per season
It was Cloughie who said the only agent he ever respected was 007- James Bond because he shafted women and not football clubs. Had to smile at a piece by Peter Shilton on You Tube regarding the time he went along to the City Ground to sign for Forest. He was accompanied by the two agents who usually represented him. They went to reception and were directed to a room to presumably to meet up with Cloughie and Peter Taylor. As they entered the room, all hell broke loose as both of Shiltons agents were sent sprawling. Apparently Cloughie was sitting on the floor at the side of the door and quite deliberately tripped them both up using his squash racquet. Chaos ensued and the meeting was duly cancelled. Before they dispersed, Cloughie asked for Shiltons home landline telephone number. The following day, he was contacted by Cloughie and they arranged to meet up. Shilton says the meeting lasted a full minute. Cloughie told him the terms for himself, produced a pen and a contract and Shilts signed on the dotted line. What a character Brian Clough was. He certainly didn't suffer fools gladly.
The price of success in supporting such a massive Club. The sale of the ground could well lead to a change in name viz: Hall of Memories.?
Rotherham are doing a flexi ticket. Not sure I’ve fully understood it but it allows cheaper entrance to games when allowed. No IFollow included. They would have to purchase separately. . £10 per game. If all season is fan free I guess that’s £230 for home games alone. Admittedly if there’s 2/3/more watching it works out cheaper. £460 to include away games. + £25 ( adult) Flexi ticket. To have the chance to attend live. £5 discount. Not sure what a match ticket price will be. In general Rotherham historically. (certainly in the last 30/40 yrs) have had more expensive season ticket prices than Barnsley. Irrespective of division To the tune when my mate had a tivoli end standing ticket he was paying £50-60 more than me who had/has an east stand lower. During the early nineties. I’m happy with the deal we have.as an oap east stander (£150) . If all 46 games have to be on iFollow I make it just over £3 per game. If we were allowed from day 1 to be there in person. Would work out approx £7 each home game. Guess when crowds are allowed back away games may have to be paid for separately if away fans are not allowed to attend. I’ll take it as it comes. Looking forward to away days when possible to attend. I miss the social aspect of those. Others clubs are just doing it differently.
You have to have some sympathy for the majority of Wednesday fans though who are normal everyday working folk and their current ownership regime is quite happy to charge the lifeblood of his club extortionate prices like that. Seen plenty of criticism of our board on here, but it does somewhat give our owners a big tick in the box at the moment in the direction they took over prices. Credit where credits due IMO.
