I rather think the attached link is a little insulting, they obviously have not looked further than the end of their noses to find the different pubs we have to offer.... http://upthesaddlers.com/wp/archives/2005/10/27/geordies-pub-guide-to-barnsley/
I love the bit about the Mount I went in before and after the match last season and had no problems, the beer is incredibly cheap (dark Magnet and Sam Smiths) and the locals were what I would describe as “curiously” friendly. Their curiosity seemed to centre on the fact that I wasn’t bald or at least 20 stone in weight. I felt a bit like Richard Dreyfus in the landing scene of Close Encounters. Thankfully none of the occupants got round to actually feeling my hair, Sky-Sports proving an adequate distraction (just).
Cheek! The worst pub I have ever been in was at Walsall. It's the place where the fan was killed during the Man Utd Palace semi final a few years ago. Think it's called the coach and horses It was a real spit and saw dust place. There were pictures of staff pit bulls nall along the walls - nice! You had to go through a pool room to go to the bogs and it was like something out of a comedy film - everyone stopped and stared at you - even the pool balls! Just round the corner from it was a charming chippy that sold deep fried Mars Bars. Class!
Wouldn't of thought he meant actual 'Old Town'. Having said that it is about a 20 minute walk from town.
He rarely drinks anywhere these days .... ... apart from when he's let off the leash for (some of) the away games or when he's out in town with the missus. He got married in May you see and when we ask him if he's coming out for a pint these days we get excuses like ... "I'm cutting the grass" or "I'm painting my fence" or "I'm taking someone to the airport" .... very sad demise!!!!!!
I was in there last Monday afternoon, not a bad boozer if you fancy a quiet pint. I'm not into the real ale stuff but its alright, apart from the piss head that wouldn't shut up. But the landlord did tell him to go after a while, it's certainly better than it used to be.
He's bang on. He should have stopped of at the Horseshoe in Wombwell best beer in Barnsley by miles. Never had a bad pint here since it became a Wetherspoons. Snooker Club and KG's serve a decent pint too. So there you have it Wombwell the beer Capital of Barnsley. (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint) (RIP)
