..........in my opinion Barnsley Football Club directors and management have had their meetings and discussed options for the new 2014/15 season.

The sale or potential sale of O'Grady for just £500k is a clear message to Barnsley Football Club supporters from the directors and management of the club.

And that message is this..........no matter what we have to say in interviews with regard to efforts to push for promotion next season............in private we don't expect to be near the top of the league by the end of next season.
Its going to take a few seasons to reduce players wages and sort the team out before we can even start to look forward again...........but who knows, we might get lucky

In other words.............we have been treading water in the bottom 6 of the Championship for 8 years..........and now we expect to tread water for another 2 to 4 years in mid-table of League One.

So you totally ignore the fact that COG wants to leave?

I dont believe that the BFC Board can be berated for the fact that COG will be sold, the real question is what fee/value we receive AND then how Danny spends it on the squad.

you mean IF Danny spends it on the squad

he might not be allowed owt. Just remember that the main priority is a scoreboard and Ale in the Ponty.

I dont require either of those.....I sit in ESL (where, they do have beer, most of thetime) and always know what score it is.

If a player wants to leave, the for me its a simple process - you have a valuation of him and make other clubs aware. Once a club reaches that valuation, he is given opportunity to talk with them.

Keeping a player who does not want to be here, at whatever level, is not a good idea.

Plus of course.........if he wants leave then sell him.........but sell him at the right price so money can be got together to bring other players in.

But what seems to have happened here is that they have unloaded cheaply in an effort to get the wage bill down

He'd be as much good as a chocolate fireguard if we tried to keep him against his will.

Re: The sale of O'Grady is a clear message from directors and management to Barnsley

You mean like Liverpool did with Suarez when he wanted to leave.
There are many other examples ALF at Rotherham for example a few years ago

O Grady may want to leave and play in a higher league but he signed a contract and the expectation is that both parties will honour it.

Obviously he has a value and if someone is prepared to pay for him and he wants to go fair enough but until that value is reached we would expect him to play to the best of his ability - and with OGrady I think he would

It seems that if rumours are correct the club value him at 500K - or they are desperate to get him off the wage bill and are prepared to take less than they think he is really worth to ensure that happens

I suspect its the latter but I am only guessing

As a former agent, I had hoped Ben would be a lot more savvy when it comes to negotiating player sales and acquisitions. If we only end up getting £500k for O'Grady, then we have been mugged yet again. At that price it would be better to keep him and risk getting nothing at the end of the season.
