Did anyone bother to get any tickets for the opening of the Shard in London next February? I managed to get some for Saturday 2nd (tarn away at blacky) tickets was £25 and you can stay in as long as you like. 70 odd floors to venture around. Looks the dogs danglers to be fair. Any suggestions on some decent digs in capital? Me, mrs & another couple going to spend weekend down there so somewhere nice to stay would be the cherry on the cake
Why not? Biggest building in western Europe. Should imagine views from 73rd floor are cracking, plus a weekend on piss in London can't be sniffed at either.
Would anybody really walk around all 70 odd floors? I imagine you'd walk straight to the top, look out of the window and walk back down again (which sounds good if you like things like that). Can't see why anybody would want to walk around all the floors though.
The weekend on the **** is a great idea, don't spoil it by spending £25 on going all the way up a concrete and glass office block just to look out over a landscape of more concrete and glass. You might get some clean up there I suppose, get above the smog.
By no means am I a ******* dufus who'll be wearing a 'I love London hat' or carrying a union jack bumbag but it just looks interesting. There was a programme on a short while ago showing how it was constructed and it just caught my eye. Worth 25 Nicker if anyone's money to have a browse surely
no not worth a fart actually...as for £25....no thanks you could watch tarn (nearly) for that..................... on seconds thoughts maybe the shard would be better!!! hth
Built in the wrong location. Should have been at lands Enf as a welcome to England or as a lighthouse. As far as I am concerned the modern crap like this and the Gerkin are out of place in our capital city.
Complete waste of money IMHO. Just like the London eye and other crap that they rip you off to use. Only my opinion though, I'm sure loads will pay to go in.
Its mugs like you paying 25 quid that keeps encouraging them to keep wasting money on building crap like that!! How about flood defences built around the country? 2 foot of water in my Kebab shop again on Friday!!!
I'd dare say the money invested into the project courtesy of overseas investment will be repayed within 10 years, the tourists who will visit, the hotel situated inside, the countless offices it will provide and then the apartments which will run up into the 10's of millions i'd dare say. Another good structure to bring in tourists = more money spent in our country. It's probably not to everyone's cup of tea
At the time construction was due to start the country was in a economic downturn so the investors opted not to back the plan but then stepped up some multi multi trillionaire business men from quatar and funded the whole thing. A wonder if they'd be bothered abart lending us a few bob to finish t'old west stand off
So its owned by Qatar and i take it all the money will go them? Suprised we havent sold Big Ben, Tower of London and Selhurst Park to the Arabs
Not yet, though they do own Harrods, the Olympic Village, Chelsea barracks, and many buildings in Kensington and Chelsea. Always thought the Shard would be a great terrorist target, sitting as it does on London Bridge station - but seeing as it is backed by Islamic finance, maybe not.
