The Ship in yesteryear............ I can well recall the 'disco nights' in the mid 80's... and the pub quiz was popular too. Back in those days there seemed to be a cosey feel in the 'posh' bit and a decent atmosphere in the tap room. Last time i went in it was all open plan and there was certainly a lack of atmosphere. Does anyone remember the Wharf lock-ins or the 'Den of Thieves'?
RE: I remember being kept awake Did you live on Haverlands Lane, Mount Vernon Road or 'the main drag' then? I was off George Street in the Dale myself. Have to say; i enjoyed growing up in Worsborough when i was a snip of a lad, and i also enjoyed Barnsley for many years.
RE: I remember being kept awake If memory serves me right then you must have lived in those lovely looking white rendered houses? If so, then you may have known the Briers family?
I think I do remember some Briers but I was t'other side of Mt Vernon from the "white houses" (where Big Mick grew up).
RE: I think I do remember some Briers Fair enough.... how old are you? 43 meself - and i'm in a somewhat nostalgic/reminiscent stage for some reason. Regaling the locals off my upbringing, telling my youngest of her Grandad in the battle of Somme, etc - i do miss the ol' town on occasions, i must say. The Briers family - they had a lad whose name began with M and he was a nice lad. Would be nice to see how he got on in life. Plus; his sister whose name began with C, very attractive she was. I seem to recall they had a nice kitchen
