just wondering how long the top four have been the top four... everyone seems to keep saying they are as though they have been since days began... but im sure some teams have broken into it at some point... surely... im sure chelsea wernt a top 4 team before abramovich era... so it cant have been that long... not say the same time as the celtic rangers dominence of scotts prem???

Well, it used to be, when the Big Four were mentioned it meant Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and Spurs (or Everton mid 80's). Chelsea have only been considered in there since Abramovic

Blackburn won the prem in 95, and newcastle came close on a couple of occasions a few years previous. surely they were part of the 'top four'. Chelsea werent even in the top tier until the late 80's (i think).

They were never mentioned as part of the Big Four as far as I recall

Used to be the big six

Liverpool, Everton, Man Utd, Villa, Spurs and Arsenal in the 80s. Chelsea were nowhere to be seen.

    Apparently...........

it's been 15 years since none of Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea scored in the same round of fixtures. Villa didn't score either, but I don't know how much further back you have to go for none of the top five scoring in the same round of fixtures.
