Apparently, according to the posters above the turnstiles, that's the new name for The Ponty end. Why? Why are we so determined to ignore our history and make our ground a bland anywheresville stadium? The Pontefract Road End means something to me. It's where I've always stood/sat. I like the name. It's synonymous with Oakwell. Whose idea was it to drop it and why? Football clubs are built on their history, yet we seem to want to forget ours. We've already named three stands by points on the compass. They could belong to any stadium in the country. We should be naming them after things that mean something to Barnsley FC starting with The Tiverton Preedy Stand. And we should definitely keep The Pontefract Road End. My town, my team, my blood. People say that football's boring Ronnie Galvin's always scoring Can you hear The Ponty roaring Ronnie is our King.
The Brewery Stand Like you say, it's history and it means something so lets have that back too. Which leaves us one free. The fourth stand. Perhaps Antony Gormley has some ideas.
Totally Agree. Expecting to see a missive on Barnsley One giving reasons for it whilst belittling the view that it should be The Pontefract Road End.
Agreed... It could still be sponsered with a more interesting name... The West Stand has, I believe, always been the West Stand, but there is plenty of choice for the other ones. However, given the removal of all traces of the Prem at Oakwell, perhaps the KO Stand might not be that popular a choice...
I never noticed that And it still says C.K. Beckett Stand in my season ticket book. However, as far as I'm concerned, it's the Ponty End. Always has been and always will be. I agree with naming the other stands after persons with strong connections to the history of the club, Reverend Tiverton Preedy and Johnny Steele for example.
RE: Matter of time... It says CK Beckett on my ST book (I think) - chucked the book in me car somwehere after the match and have currently lost it, so that should be fun tomorrow night.
Why it can't be 'The Pontefract Road End sponsored by...." I dunno.

Narrowing down those worthy of a stand named after them to just four people would be pretty hard. However the first name on the list for anyone should be Reverend Tiverton Preedy. Dozens of clubs founded by the church but only us and Swindon Town still have our founding church still standing.
they can call it what they like but it will always be the ponty end to the fans you're right Jay it's about time that was realised
£5 charge looming... and a battle with the Don. Quite correct. But I am sure I have seen it also reffered to "officially" as Pontrefract Road End. It is a simply thing to sort out, but South Stand is as bland as our football...
Completely agree No matter what the club want to call it the fans will always call it the Pontefract Road (or Ponty) end Shame we didnt keep the East Stand called the Brewery Stand as well but too late now If we do need to change names the Rev Preedy must be the first name on the list
RE: Completely agree Tommy Taylor Stand Neil Redfearn End West Stand sponsored by Potters of Barnsley - Pies of Distinction
RE: The South Stand - A load of B*ll*cks Pontefract Road End it'll always be. I want to know who the hell thought of the "new" name. It's bland, as someone else said on this thread, and there's absolutely no reason to re-name it, dismissing our history.
While I'm all for the history and traditions of the ground.... ... but if someone wants to come in and pay money to have the stand renamed for a season or two, I can't see the club saying no, and if it swells the coffers, I can't argue. Let's face it, to us it will always be the Ponty. They can call it the CK Beckett Stand or whatever they want to call it, but to us it will never change. I don't see it as an insult, just business sense. If it pays a player's wages for a season or 2, doesn't it make sense?
Yes... but we are on about teh signs calling it "South Stand" and there is no reason why it cannot be known as The Pontefract Road End sponsored by CK Beckett or whatever....
