There's a lot of talk on here about the use of data, Sormaz, Clarke, Neerav. All worthy topics and I have my views like everyone else. However, at the end of the day is it not the case that the entertainment produced on the pitch is simply dull, boring, frustrating and depressing? There are lots of factors at play but don't people go to Oakwell to see players give their all, run about, try things? Football is a results business says Neerav. Oke doke, but what about someone telling the coach and players that the club has been known as 'battling Barnsley' for a reason. The fans expect movement, graft and a 'die-for' attitude from all the players. Remember Redfearn kissing the badge when he scored against Bolton in the promotion season? Where's that passion Neerav? Moan over.
With Humphrys opitomising this in the half time warm-up of the subs. Who-ever the trainer was conducting it should have told him to go get showered and not bother coming back until he is prepared to put some effort in."Oh, and by the way, we're going to put similar effort into paying you until you show some intent".
For a large part of my career I worked in performance based occupations, With the new technology available now it's easy to tell who's not "Putting in a shift" .Surely it's time footballers were subject to this and paid accordingly.
It angers me as well when players who can do better, go through phases where they look like they just aren't bothered. This is an insult to us fans, and to the owners, and to the manager/coach. They've played a large part in getting the last two sacked, but they still pick up their wages regardless. Warnock and McCarthy might be looked at as dinosaurs now, but what would they both think about players, who don't seem to care.
Nahh probably not!. It wouldn't be so bad if it was because they're not good enough. The fact is though, some of our squad have got some quality and potential, when they choose to show it.
