"Jamal still isn't in the right kind of mental state to be playing but it will be decided one way or the other by the end of the transfer window this week," he said. "I would also like to have brought in a couple of new players by then." Barnsley manager Simon Davey gave nothing away last night commenting. "We bid for him four or five weeks ago, we've not gone back to Southend. Whether that changes remains to be seen. "We put that bid in and your opinion of a player doesn't change. He's a player that I feel would enhance the squad and would improve us. Whether that means that I'll put another bid in, who knows?. "We've got a squad of players together that we're happy with. We might need to add one or two. We'll assess that." Campbell-Ryce was the subject of a dispute between Rotherham United and Southend nearly two years ago. He claimed he wanted to move south, nearer friends and family and a fee of £100,000 was agreed but Southend refused to pay and he was unable to play for either club for over two months with the matter set for a tribunal hearing. It was settled hours before the hearing for an undisclosed sum, which was believed to be around £50,000. Barnsley were beaten 2-0 at Newcastle United last night after Davey revamped his side with six changes. Brian Howard was sick, Istvan Ferenczi and Kayode Odejayi were injured, Andy Johnson was rested while Anderson de Silva and Stephen Foster were cup tied. In came striker Miguel Mostto as well as midfield men Grant McCann, Sam Togwell, Dwayne Mattis and Martin Devaney and Rohan Ricketts was restored to the starting line-up. "We even managed to get Jacob Butterfield on the field as well. He's still a YTS boy, only 17. He made his debut tonight in front of that crowd and that was fantastic for him," Davey declared. "Kayode and Istvan are still a bit sore so we'll have to monitor them. "Andy Johnson is now 33 and three games a week is a little too much for some players. He was rested. "Martin Devaney came off during the game because he twisted his back." Former Barnsley player Nicky Wroe has joined York City. </div> <div class="ds-modifieddate">Last Updated: 30 August 2007 11:04 AM</div> <div class="ds-paging"> <div class="centre">Page 1 of 1</div> </div>

Keep signing players and spending money. But no money for a tall commanding experienced centre half. hey ho.
"not in the right kind of mental state to be playing" Sounds like the kind of thing that was said about Stan Collymore.....
RE: "not in the right kind of mental state to be playing" Yes, but in all fairness young Jamal hasn't gone on a coke infused girlfriend beating Thursday night bender and been photographed by the nations paperazzi falling out of Chinawhites with a 2 bit hooker at 3am now has he? I'm sure Mr Tilson's just mad the Jamaican Whirwind is signing for the Super Reds. Poet
