And having left the club after a meeting last just over two hours, Rowing confirmed exclusively to The Star: "We've had provisional talks with Mark - and those talks have gone really well. "We are still in talks at this stage, but we are looking to meet again to conclude those talks. "I think the fact we're in talks probably indicates that Mark is a our leading contender. Mark's a promising young manager and we rate him very highly." As he emerged from Oakwell shortly before 8pm last night, Robins said: "Barnsley sought permission to speak to me and I was given permission to speak to them and I've simply taken that opportunity. "Nothing has been done and a decision hasn''t been made. I am the manager at Rotherham United and will be there in the morning." <div class="va-inlineleftnowrap"></div> In this week's Green 'Un: Robins latest <div class="va-inlineleftnowrap"></div> Reds owner Patrick Cryne is returning from holiday in Ireland tomorrow and is expected to set up a meeting with Robins, possibly at the weekend. Rowing added that he and Taylor had been in regular contact with Cryne. "We've kept in contact with Patrick, he gets back from his holiday on Friday," added Rowing. "As always with these type of negotiations, it's a two-way thing. Mark has got to speak to his club, he is still in a job. "But we agreed with Rotherham to have those provisional chats - and those talks have gone really well. "The job has got to be right for him (Mark]. There's still a lot of talking still to do yet, but it's unlikely anything else will happen before the weekend. Rowing also added that it would be wrong of the club to rule out any other managers at this stage in proceedings. "If things did fall through then it wouldn't have been fair on any other applicants, but we won't be interviewing any other candidates at this stage," confirmed Rowing. Around teatime yesterday Rotherham issued a statement which acknowledged that Millers' chairman Tony Stewart had given Robins permission to speak to the Reds. The statement read: "I believe Mark's future is here at the club and I am convinced that he will remain our manager after meeting Barnsley."We have made tremendous strides over the past 18 months both on and off the pitch, and needless to say Mark has been a integral part of the process we have made. "Nevertherless, from the moment I took control of the club I have said I would never stand in the way of anyone here and this opportunity has come along for Mark. "Our ambition for this club remains as resolute as ever and that is to be a Championship side in our own new stadium in Rotherham in the next three years. I remain totally committed to those goals." Stewart added: "We believe Mark's future is here at Rotherham." Robins, 39, took charge of Rotherham in March 2007 and having coped with crippling financial constraints and a points deficit on two occasions, guided the club to safety last season and now to second position in League Two with four wins from five matches</div>
shouldnt he be speaking to hassell too, so that he can tell the rest of the lads 'its ok, Mark will put his arms round us and not shout at us...'
RE: Speaking to D to the R and Bazza T. Its one thing starting to look at the applicants, but I can't believe we started interviewing without the owner being here. Bizarre. Suppose he should get used to our way of working from the start though.
There's wages And then there's how our club is structured - given the current set up who would Robins report to/talk about potential signings ?</p> Cos there's our Donald and Barrington then there's the bloke with the money. </p> I can genuinely see Robins being hesitant, given the apparent well established set up he has with the Chairman at Rotherham. </p>
There's also the fact we need 2 or 3 defenders bringing in ..... during the next couple of weeks. Can't see Robins having the list of names he needs (that have the correct quality) to put to the board ..... which is what's worringing me and obviously others on here !
Can't see wages being an issue. Doubt if he's on anywhere near what we would pay at the moment. If he is, we're knacked all ways round. :'(
Being interview by Don for a football position or by a board of two directors, doesn't fill me with hope about them "selling" the club to him, hurry up back Cryne and throw him a swag bag.
