Was apparently tactical and Judd was told he'd done nowr wrong, just that he wanted to leave a more experienced player on in Nyatanga.

Who then cost us two goals.

Johnson took the wrong player off. It should have been Roberts who was totally out of his depth in a flat back 5 but instead he takes off a full-back and puts a centre-back at full-back. I always thought a back four consisted of two full-backs & two centre backs but in Johnson's world it's three centre backs.

He always chooses the dreadful Nyatanga over Smith

If any I would have taken Nayatanga offs, however I'm surprised he made any change at half time. The dilemma is Smith does push forward enough and have enough conviction in attack but defends well while Harris is OK wide but doesn't help too much defending.

I seem to remember it being Winnall who cost us the first goal - failed to clear then stood there to let their bloke just have a shot.

In fact, in terms of performances tonight it should have been Winnall hauled off first because he did more harm than good from his miss in the first minute to the final whistle.

Not that he was that much in a minority, admittedly. Roberts, Wabara and Nyatanga were all gash and the rest (apart from maybe Scowen and Smith M) not far behind.

I agree. I like Roberts but he wasn't great today, Nyatanga was better until he was shifted to LB. The changes at half time should have been Crowley and Harris for Jackson and Roberts going 442 with Winnall upfront rather than out wide or wherever the hell he was meant to be playing

First goal a was a farce. Came from a throw in deep in their own half, moved it up field unchallenged before a free header back and loads of time to turn for the kid they signed on loan from Man City today

All of Mawson, Roberts & Nyatanga were poor tonight.

Roberts did an M'Voto impression, Mawson was sloppy all night, lost lots of aerial challenges & was more interested in pushing players about than actual defending. Less said about Nyatanga the better.

Why did he sub Smith? Because it's the easy option to drop an academy kid rather than one of your two big summer signings or your buddy from Bristol who's the only experienced player in the team

Michael Smith shows what a good player Nathan Byrne is. Looks hapless and hopeless.

    In re-signing Nyatanga

and the rhetoric he used afterwards about him, Johnson told me everything I needed to know about his abilities to spot a decent defender. His failure to sign a left back whilst filling the squad with similar midfield players will be the main reason he gets fired.

To be fair to Nyatanga, he has generally looks poor at left back (or left wingback) and the manager must realise this isn't a place where he should play.

    Re: In re-signing Nyatanga

he's a below average centre half as well, watched him end up in the net for Southends 2nd instead of beating his man to the ball and hoped Johnson wouldve realised he's brittle, but no, played pretty much every game in last 2-3 years in teams that have always ALWAYS leaked goals. Doesnt need a 20 slide powerpoint with pretty pictures to spell out the obvious - not good enough.

Lewin is always likely to grab a set piece goal (he almost equalised from a corner last night). I think that's why he gets the nod over Roberts / Smith. I prefer to see Nyatanga at CB rather than FB.
