The way that when we got a corner especially at the Ponty end, the fans instantly started singing "Come on you Reds" ... it was like an automatic response.... nowadays there's noise but it's not like that uniform instant reaction. Bring it back!! Must have been ace for the players.
Kipper throwing tiles off the refreshment stand in the Ponty! Good old days ! there's no tiles to do it anymore!
Agreed... The atmoshphere in the early eighties was electric and its rarely been anything like ever since.
RE: Where is Kipper now? Not heard about hom for a while. Anyone know where he and legendary karaoke machine are?
RE: Where is Kipper now? he had his karaoke confiscated and last I heard he was in jail again.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JH5EUjzPpLw
I dont think so The old wooden brewery stand made the atmosphere much better when we had a good crowd. Used to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Plenty of 18k+ crowds helped too.
I was 23 then... ... I always thought the lack of a roof on the ponte and the brewery didn't hold in the atmosphere... whereas in the new stands the roofs keep the noise in. Things always seemed louder and better when you're younger.... nostalgia eh ? ain't what it used to be !!!
i used to like the surge down the ponty when we scored especially when we were in 4th division and there was only 20 or 30 doing it!!
pah... supporters packed onto the corners asside the ponte helped. Tha'll neve convince me otherwise. Although I prefer seating for me it ruined the atmosphere. I'ld still sing my heart out at games but it feels a bit daft when everyfecker else around is silent.
RE: pah... The atmoshere was fantastic then, No songs about today at Oakwell. We dont even take the piss out of the opposition like we used to. No more songs about Ronnie Moore`s Hat etc. There is no feeling of togetherness at Oakwell now. If you want to get into the game and show some passion, then, the people around you tell you to sit down and shut up. When i walk down to the ground, I still get a tingle and a buzz, but once inside Oakwell it seems soul less and empty, against the vibrant energy I remember from the past, I know there was times when there was only 2-3000 in but we still got behind the team , we didnt just wait for the side to score , then sing(bloody hell , sometimes we could have waited a couple of matches. The Ponty Endders sang for the club not like this shower that gos now.
