Is that this division is bigger than us. It's took me six years to accept it but when our top wage will be summat like £5k because we want, nay MUST run solvently, the laws of economics dictates our players won't be as good. The crowd has become apathetic because of a lack of progression and as I've said before, breaking even or making a profit does not traditionally excite football fans. This is the new reality. Staying up whilst not going bust is as far as it goes but we can always hope for more. The question is can you get up the enthusiasm for this new reality? I'd like to see changes at the top, not a a miracle cure with some Oil Sheik pumping millions in to get bored and kill us, but to have more belief in ourselves that given a sound financial base we can get stronger.
That seems fair and balanced In order for us to compete at this level, the pressure will be on the Academy to produce enough players capable of playing on a regular basis in the Championship. Unfortunately, since it's been built, this has rarely happened.
Correct. Perhaps that is starting to change Admin arguably affected the Academy worse than anything else as we lost coaches and a generation of kids.
I disagree. I believe that this division is not bigger than BFC, it is merely bigger than our board of directors and owner. Our club, our stadium, our facilities, our fanbase, our town IS big enough for the championship, the thing that isn't is our boards ability to properly make use of all of the above. We have around 8,000 home fans every week due to the board of directors. It is they who are not good enough, not the fans.
I agree in some respects but having 8000 crowds seems to say the town can't support a club at this level. And don't say if we cut prices we'd get bigger crowds. I don't think we would because we don't win enough. It is that that gets folks to come back.
I've seen the Academy twice this season A 2-2 draw against Liverpool and a 1-0 victory over Manchester United and I've been impressed. I don't know whether some of them are ready, or capable, to make the step up, but I've certainly enjoyed watching them.
But we had bigger crowds, the crowds fell when the club changed the pricing policy and fell further when the club refused to accept it was wrong and not only kept the ridiculous pricing policy but made it even more ridiculous.
I'm just going to bury my head in the sand and hope everything turns out ok. It (eventually) did when we were in admin.
Redstar you are so right,we have to accept that we are adivision 1 side with our crowds. To compete in this division we would have to employ someone like Mick Macarthy and be prepared to go into debt for better players and we know where that leads. Both Sheff clubs will compete at this level better than us because they have bigger crowds and better managers.Keith Hill is not a magician ,he is an average manager with dodgy tactics but would be OK in Div 1,so we will just have to piss with the ***** we have got!
Do you think the Danny Wilson of 2012 is a better manager than Keith Hill because I don't - and that takes into account Hill's numerous faults.
Doesn't matter how big the town is, how many fans we have, or about the directors, if the players can't do the basics on the pitch (defending), or we can't beat teams who are there for the taking (Coventry) then there is little wonder we will struggle. How many goals have we conceded that are purely down to poor defending? How many games have we had either no shots, or barely any shots on target?
Re: I've seen the Academy twice this season Agree with you biglil. I've seen them a few more times than you and there will 5/6 that will make it i think. People have seen digby and RNL but the others are equally good.
Re: I've seen the Academy twice this season We have all heard and said as much many times, to me non of them show any more promise than Rory Fallon or Nathan Jarman did at the same stage. This was before you were born Hemsie-poo.
