Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seems to me that the club have played a few of the recent transfer situations pretty well given our position. The impression I get is that in a number of cases we've made our offer and stuck by it, avoiding the temptation to get into bidding wars or agents' inflated views of their players. And now things are coming together. Nads returns to the fold - no denying he can score when it suits him and we've all seen that. A deal for Werling looking to be on the cards. The potential deal for Parker was dropped when it looked like we were being played for suckers. I'm going to risk incurring the wrath of Dragon Tyke, which I'm sure isn't as bad as the breath of Dragon Tyke, by saying that we are spending responsibly and that we need to continue to do so while we are still managing such debts post-admin. And I'm quietly confident that there'll be a sting in the tail of this transfer window yet.
I have to say, while I understand where you're coming from, and agree that we have shown strength in negotiating, Barnsley FC, Gordon and Simon Davey will not change the system on their own and if we continue to stubbornly stick to our guns in terms of what we value a player at against what the market values a player at, we're ******. If it does work as a long term strategy, Gordon should **** football off and start buying houses at 1950's prices, he could bank roll the club in no time.
I agree. We are ticking along nicely as a club at the moment. I will be happy if we are still in this division in 5 years time. As long as we are not going backwards we should be at least content. We have to face facts that we are a poor club and until we are in a position to challenge for the PL then we will carry on being a poor club. However I think with a moderate investment now we may have a chance of making the top 6 and having a go at the play off lottery. You just never know. Surely the club (Cryne) can gamble with a couple of million, I would like to think I would if I were a multi-millionaire. At the very least we will have a stronger squad for next season.
Personally I think this is a shrewd move by Simon, I think that we could not afford to pay both a transfer fee and wages for the two 'big' names linked with Barnsley transfers. So it was either Macken or De Silva and by the recent return of Nardiello I think Simon chose De Silva. If this happens then It is a massive bonus as we are short in midfield and his quality should show and make the midfield tick again. Nardiello has a lot to prove now so it may just prove to be the carrot to tempt him to give 110%. So lets back the team in the coming weeks......UP THE REDS.
Good point. If that's true and Da Silva turns out to be the sting in the tail then I'll be very happy.
