The way Dagnall took that kick you would think he had his mind on Oakwell next year

A totally unconvincing penalty kick if ever I've seen one. It was as if his mind was somewhere else and he was thinking what the heck am I doing here taking kick number 5?? I reckon he fancies a trip to Oakwell next August. Mind you, they might boot him out after that.

Why didn't he just blast it in like he did against Leeds? Rather seen the southern club go up and the northern one stay down for a couple more derbies next season. Ah well, never mind.

Shocking player. His record suggests that. Don't get why he's so liked.

There was a lot of pressure, the stadium was electric when it was his turn. Since he came on as sub he'd been a right thorn in Rotherham's side and looked the most likely player on the pitch to score.

Yes I thought he looked pretty sharp and, in theory, you would put him down for the last kick based on his experience. The task was too much for him though - you could see that straight away. Horrible thing to have to do really but, as I have always said, if a professional footballer cannot hit a ball past a keeper from only twelve yards with all that goal to aim at he shouldn't be playing

I wouldn't go that far because that devalues the role of a keeper but they should definitely be hitting the target.

Don't by into this lets have another derby game, more at stake in derbies and harder games to win as form and quality go out of the window

    Aye, oreight.

I've seen two of my favourite Tarn laikers miss penalties. Barnard and Redfearn.

I've seen Maradona, Waddle, Baggio, Beckham, Raul, Ronaldo, Lineker etc, miss penalties.

Should they never have played football then?

Fair play to Daggers for having the balls to take such a pressure penalty. He hit the target, but it was a poor effort, comfy for Collin. As for Scott describing him as a shocking player whose record suggest so, I take it you were saying that when he scored all those goals for us last season?

As I said in the other 'knock Dagnall' thread, there are plenty of deserving cnuts who've represented us over the years, recent ones as well. Daggers int one of em. Never had a bad word to say about the club, despite ***** treatment at times, and being written off by 'supporters' from day one. Funnily enough, most of those who did so, used to defend the life out of Dawson, Wiseman et al. Proper wastrel basterds. :)

I said this last week - that if Rotherham stay down, they'll probably get promoted next season. If Orient don't go up, I expect them to suffer a hangover next season.

I'm hoping I'm right. I think they'll fade a little now. Probably lose Cox, Odebajo (sp?) and Jones. I wouldn't mind all three of them at Oakwell. Be nice to see us taking our rivals better players. Won't hold my breath, mind.

Can't knock Dagnall for missing the penalty everybody misses sometimes. Pretty electric atmosphere. Shame cos he's such a great bloke.

I've seen some of Barnsley's finest miss them. Mick Butler, Brian Joicey, Allan Clarke, Ronnie Glavin, Ian Banks, Gordon Owen, David Currie, Neil Redfearn, Craig Hignett, Darren Barnard, Michael Chopra, Chris O'Grady. Even Chris Dagnall!:) When someone misses a penalty, they've simply made a mistake. Nothing more. I've yet to meet a worker in any walk of life who hasn't made a mistake.

The way Dagnall took that kick you would think he had his mind on Oakwell nex...

I'd put Wiseman & Dawson in the same boat as Dagnall. All 3 were league one standard players who we took a punt on but didn't quite hack it in the championship despite giving there all. Obviously Dagnall seems a better bloke than the other 2 but in terms of ability they're very similar standard of players.

Don't get the 'shocking player' comments off some though, he'd be a good player for us next season. Him & O'Grady would have a lot of success in league one

I'm not saying footballers are infallible. Of course they make mistakes. I've seen enough football to realise that it doesn't matter how good you are.

What I was trying to get at was that I've never really understood this trying to place the ball just one side of the keeper business. It often fails, and not just at Wembley.

Mathematically it should be impossible to miss provided you hit the ball with some power. Think of it - the goal is 24 feet wide and 8 feet high. A keeper is, say six feet tall and less than two feet wide. Obviously he moves, spreads himself one way or the other. But there is an AWFUL lot of space all around him that the penalty taker just has to hit. It looks simple enough, so I can never understand professionals trying to be clever. Just whack it hard and off the ground, but not too high. Guaranteed goal every time :)

Yes, applies even more to internationals. They're supposed to be able to do anything with a football so what's so hard about smashing it past a German goalkeeper? Easy peasy

I don't blame anyone for missing a pen, especially under the kind of pressure Dagnall was under.

You've got to realise there's a crowd chanting & putting pressure on you, there's a keeper who's trained to save penalties & most try & get in the opposing players head as they're stepping up & as daft as it might sound putting your foot through a ball after 120 minutes is bloody hard, your bodies knackered, that's why many try to place them.

Of course the best thing to do is constant practice but this is league football & it's rare most clubs have more than one shoot out a year.

I think it also helps if you don't give a ****. You'll see few pens as calm as Balotelli for City at Old Trafford a few years back

What's the best display of penalty taking any of you have seen? Mine has to be Italy in the 2006 World Cup final. 5 brilliant finishes
