1. if JCR goes then fair enough if we get a decent price and can get someone to replace him 2. all the clubs that still persist in spending 1 million plus in the years to come will fall flat on their faces (unless they get huge income from attendences - which Barnsley doesn't) 3. going stupid on wages at this moment in time is going to be another big downfall for many clubs in this division that are trying to punch above their weight 4. clubs who are deciding to get their houses in order now are the ones that will prosper in years to come, this includes being realistic about transfers, creating schemes whereby fans are rewarded and also getting rid of what isn't needed at the club (andy johnson and wages for e.g as well as others) 5. continuing on from the last point, chairman, managers and all the staff connected with the club will make mistakes, but they will also make excellent decisions that will benefit us in the future and i believe that a lot of the mistakes they have made have been or are being trying to put right ( they also have had to put right mistakes made by previous members of staff) 6. we are Barnsley and not Real Madrid, we cannot bring in big name signings that are tempted by huge wages and promises of trophies, if thats what you want you have to go and support a club that can do this (of which they are few at the moment and soon to be less and less) 7. i for one am thankful to support Barnsley, still in my eyes a club for the supporters who all in all are looked after and the only thing that would ever stop me from supporting my team is if there was a scenario like the one at Manchester City where there is no skill, effort or interest in the fans not a rant or having a go at anyone just that i for one am proud to be a Barnsley fan and trust the decisions that are made are ones that will see us right in the long run
Much too sensible a post for this board :- Hence the paucity of replies. Agree wi thi 100%. When I read this board I sometimes think I've loged onto Chelski's site by mistake with some of the sh*te spouted on here about what we should and should'nt do.
Thanks very much. And can I congratulate you on your use of the word 'paucity'. Bravo. First time I seen it on here.
Except for one little consideration................its a free country .........and if I was a billionaire and wanted to spend money on Barnsley.......I would do...........end of, full stop ............and if I could persuade PC to sell me the club and I wanted to paint the Ponti End pink.......I would do ..........and there's nowt anybody could do about it............WHY ???..........cos its a free country
RE: Except for one little consideration................its a free country Problem is all these rich owners that invest in a club want their team to win everything. I suppose this is what every supporter wants, but realistically it ain't going to happen. With Ambromovic's billions Chelsea got a lot of trophies, but as they weren't winning the Champ League he got shot of Mourinho, and it's been down hill since. Likewise, Man City's new owners will be expecting to win everything, but the more rich people invest in clubs the less chance each of these clubs have of winning anything. What happens if 6 clubs get rich owners? Only 4 can qaulify for the Champ League, so what happens to the 2 that don't? If the investment from the owner has gone down as a loan and the cash cow of reaching Champs League football does not happen on a regular basis then what happens if he thorws the teddy out, walks away and wants his millions back? The club disintegrates and drops like a stone. How long will it be before a major club goes bust, loses everything and ends up playing non-league football? While the fans enjoy the good times of investment and winning, what effect will it have on them when they realise that they can't win everything and the only ways is down?
RE: Except for one little consideration................its a free country Somone has always got to finish bottom no matter how much money you throw at it.
You mean like Leeds Slightly different in that their loans were from a bank rather than a big businessman and they only dropped to 3rd division but its a good example of whats going to happen when the rich get bored Its bad enough when its a real fan bankrolling the club like Walker did at Blackburn for example but I bet the foreign billionaires dont have the commitment I am sure. Of course we arent squeaky clean either - lower scale but without loans from PC we would probably have gone under as well
cant agree more, well its a pity that most fans dont think this way,we aint real madrid and if football goes the way of man city,i can see myself turning to watch rugby or simply go fishing christ yawn,im still reeling from the badge kissing of a certain brian howard who was quick to rip his contract up and jump ship, pity we couldnt do that with johnsones contract or 1 or 2 other payers .but sadly everything favours the players ,they have too much power and sadly its the fans who suffer,im so glad cryne is in charge and not bernie ecclestin or wohever, the football club belongs to the fans and long reign this if jcr as to go so be it ,just get sum money this time unlike howard affair.
What makes supporting a club like BFC so special is the fact that all the struggle makes success taste so much sweeter. When we achieve promotion, or reach a semi final, it is a momentous occasion. I reckon it doesn't mean half as much to Man U fans when it is a case of "Oh, another PL title". You can't appreciate success properly without the failure. I just wish the top teams would disappear into a European Super League and bring some competitiveness back to our national game. The top teams from each country for each year could be decided by a co-effecient, so it is not a closed shop to rich clubs like Man City. If JCR does go I think a little bit of my hope will have been destroyed forever. It will speak volumes about our ambition. I honestly think that if we can keep our squad together and add some decent strikers and one or two others in the summer then we can challenge for the top 6. If we start selling our best players then we will never make any progress. A couple of million invested over the next 12 months and we will be looking good, with the extra tv money next season surely it is worth a punt.
Why are billionaire foreigners using our football clubs as a means of getting one over on the other. Far better for me if Abramovich had a dual with Sheikh whatshisname of Abu Dhabi in a neutral venue, than using football clubs to spar with.
