    Everybody is a suspect.
    You are no longer born free.
    Your DNA is no longer your own.
    Your DNA will NOT be returned to you.
    YOU are the property of the state.
    Repeat - YOU are the property of The State.
    Failure to supply your DNA signifies guilt.
    The State is more important than the individual.
    The law abiding majority will be punished to catch the law breaking minority.
    Everybody is a suspect.
    You have nothing to fear.
    No mistakes will be made.
    Only the guilty will be punished.

    I respect your points....

    however,

    if this was introduced and managed effectively and for crime purposes in which I am thinking

    ie, a body was found (raped too and all that), which contained the DNA of the person who committed it

    surely by taking this DNA and running a match, then it would show the criminal straight away, instead of spending months if not years (and sometimes never finding the culprit) to keep them from committing similar crimes...

    Surely this aspect is a good thing?

    The guy with the flat tyre had nothing to fear

    until the cops turned up, ran over his foot breaking it, THEN slapping a &pound;80 fixed penalty on him for denting the Police Car when they ran over him. ?? If they get away with that then who knows......

    </p>

    The government can't run most of its public services correctly and has consistently botched up all manner of computer led applications and databases. What makes you think they will do better with this? And as with most things the Government will be tempted to privatise it and sell your DNA to the highest bidder. That will make your insurance premiums interesting, won't it? </p>

    </p>

    No because DNA does not necessarily prove guilt in every case. DNA contamination, mix-ups and various other things can happen, and have happened. </p>

    </p>

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/08/27/ndna127.xml </p>

    All this works on the premise that everyone is guilty until they are proven innocent by having their DNA checked (amongst millions) to show they are not involved. This government obsessed with supposedly protecting the &quot;law abiding majority&quot; it talks so often of by removing their rights and freedoms. My DNA is my DNA, it is NOT the property of the State. Why should anyone forcibly have their DNA removed and kept on a database when they are innocent?</p>

    Bang on. Why should you be registered just to live ? Because that's what this is.</p>

    If we've nothing to hide then why don't we all have a tracking device attached to us so our movements can be monitored ?</p>
