The way we play and long ball. There must be, because every time some one says they're not keen on our style of play they're accused of liking/advocating/promoting the long ball game.

The best football I've seen Barnsley play was under Danny Wilson. It was nothing like how we play now, it was much faster, much crisper passing, much more daring, much more exciting and no one would dream of describing it as long ball.

Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal don't play a long ball game, but they certainly don't play like we do. They absorb pressure and break with speed to catch the opposition on the hop. Much like many teams who have been successful against us do.

We don't do that. We're patient and methodical, we allow the opposition to get everyone behind the ball and we play ten passes when sometimes one would do. I don't particularly like it, I think it's boring, but I'm certainly not advocating us playing the long ball.

id rather see us pass the ball than hoof it long , as someone said earlier however a long ball is a good ball if its intended as a pass , a long one to a player or into space, if its just hoofing it ala sheffield united then it can get bent ... at the moment we do need to pass it quicker and be more direct with our passing at times... def need to make 2 passes instead of the 10 we do at the moment

People who say passing the footballs boring are mad in my opinion.

We can't just pass quickly and always forward because teams have watched us a lot and they respect Barnsley has a very good passing team.

You watch the other passing teams and they will pass it 20/30/40 times forward and back but there fans are more educated. You've(the fans) got to be patient. You watch games in spain and you will see it a lot. but there fans are educated as they know whats going on and understand football. I really hope when keith hill leaves we get in a very similar style of manager just like Swansea have....

We're definitely not long ball but there's more than a whiff of the aimless PHart passing game.

Personally, I'd be happy with it if we had a squad member who could occasionally produce a Hoddle-esque ball to cut through the defence.

I don't think there is such a thing as "the long ball" its just getting up front quicker, why we need to do.

I'm afraid its descending into Spackman territory, the argument could always be made that we haven't had anyone decent upfront to pass it to but with Davies back and Tudgay up there I don't think we can use this as an excuse anymore. Get the ball into the box, thats where defenders make mistakes that cost goals ....as we know. For me its frustrating to see free kicks 25 yrd out of goal being passed sideways, corners time again taken short just for the ball to go backwards .Do we have a freekick /corner strategy ,obviously its been highlighted with the Stoke goal last night but I think we could show a bit more imagination in that area

Teams watch Barnsley and know that if we have the ball two banks of four and just wait.

There is nothing wrong with the long, as long as it is not your only game plan. If, like David Beckham, you can hit a seventy yard pass into the heart of the oppositions half and find your man than that is a pretty handy weapon in my book. It might appear John Stones could be pretty able at that, once he becomes fluent in the basic principles of defending.

You do know that the way Barnsley play is nothing like the way they play it in Spain, dont you?

The pass pass pass game is all right if...

You get to the edge of the oppositions box with 8 or 9 in front of you and you have got the likes of xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas on the ball who have the guile to feed clever little balls into strikers like david villa and messi making runs into space

Our midfielders ain't got the guile and the strikers definitely ain't got the movement

I enjoy us playing possession football

However, I'd prefer us to play it at a higher tempo especially when we get into the final third. I don't suppose Swansea fans were enamoured with this style when it was first introduced by Roberto Martinez, played by third tier players. When Paulo Sousa took over, the style didn't change but the amount of goals scored dropped off quite remarkably. So they, too, evolved a similar style of play, rather than witnessing a revolution. If our manager can gradually bring in players who will comfortably fit into this style and also achieve a better points per game ratio with it, I won't complain too much.

    Absolutely bang on.

They've played a certain style for 5 years - same strategy regardless of managers and built slowly. Same for WBA.

More than happy to be bored by us playing short passes and being too slow - with a bit of patience it'll come consistently just like we've seen in glimpses.

    It won't happen over night

But it's my belief we're heading in the right direction in the long term.

thats what people were saying about Spackmans brand of football problem was we never progressed over the half way line, whilst not as bad at the moment its definitely getting there. Lets hope the introduction of a decent partner to Davies and bit more urgency in the attacking department gets us through
