Yes these players have been good for Barnsley Football Club but its time to move on

But we need better players than Hassell and Steele if we are to progress

Flicka knows it...........hence the reduced terms and reduced length of contract for these players
Why else would he do this ???

If we don't improve the squad to a level above these players then expect bottom 6 again next season

Of course there is!! It is what football clubs are founded on. Otherwise we'd all be Man U fans.

There's every room for sentiment. If it wasn't for sentiment nobody would go. Who would have watched us through some of the dross over the last few years if we didn't have a sentimental attachment to the club? Football lives and breathes on sentiment. That's how they get away with overcharging us for admission, replica shirts, food and drink while offering us a shocking product for much of the time yet still get an audience of thousands week in week out. Football is sentiment.

We got one from Norway that cost £250k and up to him getting injured he was the best keeper in the division..........by a country mile

I'm not in the football business but Flicka will know that they are out there...........hence his wish to push Steele sideways

I disagree. And so must Flicker otherwise he wouldn't have offered them owt.
I reckon Bobby is a fantastic utility player at this level, and a legend in my eyes. Even more so now I know he's signed a vastly reduced deal ahead of more lucrative offers. Just as COG did last week. Which shows how much they want to be a part of the adventure and what this club means to them.
But you crack on, Nudge. Making digs at players who will rightfully be remembered as true BFC greats, still spoke about in 20 years time.
Give me that over a Shackell every day of the week.

You're wrong. It's all about sentiment.

There's no room for excessive punctuation in BBS posts.

How come you felt your nonsense opinion deserved a new thread?

If there were no sentiment in football most clubs would cease to exist as they are not financially viable.

Look at all the great managers................Cloughie, Shankley..........even Fergie (?)
No matter how good the player had been, as soon as their performance level had dropped.........they were out

AND............some seem to be getting a bit confused with sentiment for a club by the fans.........AND...........the sentiment a manager has to show for players at the club i.e. the business side, the winning side, of football.

Steele is one of the best shot stoppers in the league. Fair enough, there are keepers out there who are better than Steele, Kasper Schmeichel for one -great shot stopper, commanding, great distribution - the whole package. We would have to pay £4 million for that. Steele is probably one of the best we could get on our limited budget and definitely not a weak link.

We need to retain the players who did so well under Flicker from January. Build around them with players like Dale Jennings and there is only one way we are heading and thats up the league.

    I'll back Flitcroft's judgement

When it comes to having the players he wants at the club.

    Re: I'll back Flitcroft's judgement

    I'm genuinely concerned about this

Flicka and the present backroom staff have obvious motivational skills that are better than Keeefs

But I very much doubt that Flicka is as good as Keeef in the transfer market

In saying that.........in Mansford I think we have a more experienced person at bringing a player in once that player has been identified

Its identifying the good lower league players that Barnsley can afford that may be a problem this close season
