And if Danny doesnt come back then Warnock or Holloway will keep us up.... Time to break the bank and get an experienced manager in.
No way that Darren Ferguson would leave Posh to come to Barnsley - why on earth would he?. Peterborough is his home - he's tried leaving once and it didn't work out - he's loved at Peterborough and it just wouldn't be worth the risk - it's hardly a massive step up for him anyway. Mike Phelan - complete unknown quantity - so he's sat at the side of Ferguson a lot - means nothing. He may be good, he may be *****, like Brian Kidd. It's a risk we can't take on a unknown. I can't see any logical reason why he would be deemed to be a better bet than Danny Wilson.
what has darren ferguson ever done in the champ, other than get relegated? and what has mike phelan ever done, full stop? i'm personally not big in wilson's corner, but i don't see how either ferguson or phelan are stronger candidates.
Are you serious? One has spent the majority of the past 10 years at the very top of the Premier League, the other has spent the last 15 years in the lower leagues at Hartlepool MK Dons and Swindon.
one has 1000 games in league football and a win rate over 40%. the other has 0 games under his belt as a manager. man utd's dominance in the game has had very little to do with the assistant manager of the day. david moyes is living proof of that
Being at the very top does not in any way mean that someone would be a good manager of lesser players, have any knowledge of the territory further down the pyramid, or the players etc. It is for that reason that very few top players make good managers in my opinion - they find it hard to understand why lesser players can't do what they could. Besides, the kit man at utd has spent many years at the very top of the premier league but he wouldn't be my first choice for manager either. Phelan has NO experience of being a manager. You think he got any opportunity to make decisions at Utd under Ferguson? - no way - he will have been little more than the middle man between the players and the boss. DW has spent the last 15 years in the lower leagues (you forgot to mention the words "being very successful at that level"). And that is where we, in all likelihood, will be playing our football next season.
If we are being pedantic as well, DW hasn't spent the last 15 years in the lower leagues. He has spent the last 9 years in the lower leagues - he was at Bristol City until 2004, taking them to multiple play offs.
