At least McPhail had the good grace to buggar off down to Wales to line his pockets. I know Howard doesn't owe us anything but all the badge kissing ****** didn't mean a thing and his loyalty and feeling to the club can't amount to anything if he can sign for them. I've read one or two posts today criticising the club and Patrick Cryne's lack of ambition, there's no doubt in my mind that Cryne will have done his utmost to keep Howard at the club and no doubt which one has the genuine interests of the club at heart. So goodbye Brian, **** off from the club and **** off from the town as well!
McPhail stated that the decision as to whether or not he would sign a new contract would be based on how much ambition the club showed in close season. We made no new signings and he left. Fair do's in my opinion as we DIDNT show any ambition.
RE: McPhail stated that the decision as to whether or not he would sign a new contract It's a nice n easy excuse for players to get out that, lack of ambition, mind you I don't blame a player too much if he can double his money, just don't one minute kiss the badge and say how much you love the club and the town and then sign for their biggest rivals the next.
RE: McPhail stated that the decision as to whether or not he would sign a new contract And that was a load of bull aswell as he left only a couple of weeks into the close season, so didn't give the club the chance to sign anyone. IMHO he had verbally agreed with Risdale/Cardiff before the play off final, his comments and reaction showed that.
Brian Howard Hero to Zero! Better without him BFC has done great things for his career, he could have stayed and become a legend. But onceagain a footballer follows his ego to better his career. I suppose he'll follow another previous reject captain and join the red & white w**nkers.
I see your point but we don't know the full story in either case. McPhail's 'ambition' statement might have been a cover, it might have been about the money like people belive but it might not, if we had signed top class players and he thought we'd be successful he might have stayed. Only he knows. same with Howard, only he knows why he doesnt want to sign a new contract. Is he worried we are not going to make any progress under davey and he is going to waste his career? or it might be that he has faith in davey but feels the board/club itself isn't making any attempt to progress (not giving davey funds etc). or that the club suggested a laughable amount of money for a new contract. Or simply that he wants a huge pay rise. Only he knows the answer so we can't judge him on one side of the story. As for him going to our rivals, well if he is sent out on loan how much say does he have in it? Is it the player that finds the loan deal or the club?
Well he's agreed to go, the club can't make him. Isn't the loan thing just an agreement so they can get around the transfer window?
And thats another thing that someone mentioned earlier, whats the definition of emergency signing? Sheff U are hardly short on numbers are they?
Howard IS not greedy He wanted to stay and the club did not want him , On the wages front If howard had acceted even 8 grand a week he would still have been number 4 in the wages structure weith Macken, Muller Steele and Kozluk in front of him
I feel that Brian Howard... wanted pay parity with the higher earners at the club that had comne (Luke Steele?! FFS) and this was refused and he was offered the same terms as he was currently on.
RE: I feel that Brian Howard... Can't see that. The club have said that no discussions took place. If he had wanted parity, I don't think there would have been a problem. PC made that statement about his worth, so I think we would have put him up with the high earners. And wasn't there some clauses in certain players contracts (Paul Reid for one), that if a player came in on a higher wage, they would automatically go onto that wage? I'm not saying Howard was one, but I'm sure I've read it.
where have they said that no discussions took place? They said that no contract offer was made, not that no discussions about a potential offer took place.
RE: where have they said that no discussions took place? "Of course, the Club was keen to retain the services of its captain who has been a fans' favourite since his arrival on a free transfer from Swindon. The club has been prepared at all times to offer new contract terms to Brian to keep him with the Reds but his representatives have declined that opportunity. " That reads to me that they haven't talked at all.
it might read like that (it would, its a statement given out by a party with a vested interest) but it doesnt say that. wasn't it cole that was having secret meetings in a hotel once whilst under contract? terms will have been discussed but no contract offer was made
That's why I said that yesterdays statement was a disgrace because it clears nothing up and just serves to fuel more speculation. For all we know the club could have told brian that they would make him an offer of £10k a week if he wanted and he said dont bother, or they could have said look bri, how about an extension for 2 years on the same money? shall we draw that up? and he said no. or of course they might not have even mentioned it at all but imagine you are in charge of a football team and you are repeatedly trying to get your captain and most valuable player to discuss a new contract would you keep telling him you want to offer a contract but never mention any money? Or would you, whilst saying you want to offer a contract, mention a rough figure to try to tempt him to enter negotiations? I know which I'd do personally (not that everyone would do the same as me)
