Just heard Theresa May address the house of commons on the matter of organised child abuse in the 1980. She informed us that there was no dossier exposing paedophile handed over, merely a number of letters sent by the labour MP said to have compiled that information raising his concerns. Having already heard Lord Brittan deny the dossier, then remember it (stating that he passed it on), and having heard David Mellor state that there was a dossier, but it wasn't substantial (although he denies reading it), and having heard Lord Tebbit say 'there probably was a cover up' - am I alone in thinking "what the **** is going on?".

May has promised a detailed independent investigation, but states that the results won't be in before the general election.

This feels properly wrong to me.

If you support the need for a formal parliamentary enquiry, please visit www.change.org and sign Tom Watson MP's petition.

I don't see this as a party political issue - because I have heard names of all colours shamed by allegations of involvement. Like the expenses scandal, it's about demanding accountability from a political elite.

BTW David Cameron has stated today that the guilty need to be identified and brought to justice - not 'if any offences are found' just a simple implied statement 'I believe offences have been committed'.

There will be multitude of dossiers naming a few fusty old nonces. Some arses will be quaking on both sides of the divide.

There needs to be a thorough investigation that names and shames. Nonces like Smith may have got away with it but those still alive should be thrown in prison and made to pay for their dispicable crimes.

Don't they have to be careful that anything published may prejudice the ongoing. Police investigations?

The whole thing is monumentally shady. Hopefully this has gone too far for any more cover ups.

It also smells of a fudge of the issues by declaring two reviews at the same time. They had better not report back on the same day otherwise the issue might become the effectiveness of the safeguarding bodies rather than the culpability of the individuals involved, which is the key issue.
