got a sony TV and have to have the sound on at 70 for some programmes, and for 30 or 40 for others, but the sound is quite poor in general!!

does these sound bars actually work? won't want to fork out a couple of hundred quid if it doesn't work!

    any advice would be good

    cheers fellow bbs'ers

Yes they make a tremendous difference!

Trouble with these flat screen tv s are the speakers are very poor due to the size

My dads got a Bose one which im guessing wasnt cheap, but he only uses it for films and football - and yes it enhances the experience and the sound is impressive i guess you get what you pay for. I think people get varying results depending on how big the room is and the position of the speaker. I'd recommend trying to find a friend who has one set up and go round and have a listen.

Bought this Bose soundbar last week
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0117RGXC8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Decent quality as you'd expect from Bose. You can just keep going up in price but this gives a good quality depth of sound at a reasonable price.

Plugs into the digital audio output from the telly. Can set up the remote as a “one for all” so it controls telly and Sky box as well, one click power on for all 3.
The only thing I don’t like is that when you are adjusting the volume you don’t see a scale as to the setting of the volume.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, I was looking at that on...the additional speaker is a sub-woofer.

i got a free sound bar with our sony 12 months ago and as far as i know they were running the offer on all their tellys, try giving them a call telling them how poor the sound is,you never know they might even give you one.

i also have a bose lifestyle system which i've had for 16 years, amazing sound quality,so i can only imagine how good the new ones are...bose take some lickin'.

Only had it a couple of months and contacted Sony to tell them and the answer is the same as said above..
Better quality picture comes at the expense of poorer sound (so they want you to spend extra money on extra kit)

My Mrs works for Tesco and gets discount plus a staff voucher for an extra twenty quid off, so I'm looking to get one, while the going is good, in time for Xmas.

i've got to say our picture is top notch, however the tv's own speakers are *****,sony definately scrimped on the quality,i'd have sent it back had it not been for the free sound bar

I've got a Philips one and it did improve the bass but dialogue sounded muddy so I unplugged it, will get a new one when I get a new TV.

The newer ones have Bluetooth so you can play your music on them as well.
