Getting one for the missus for Christmas. Getting the new one which is £89 here but $79 in the States which is just over £50. So ordering one over there and getting it sent to friends house where we are staying.
Considering getting myself one as well.

Yes - l asked the same question on here before buying mine. Worth every penny so far, and l'm finding that the e-books are getting cheaper and cheaper to purchase as well. The new one at £89 that Eaststander mentions does the trick, the only thing its missing is the keyboard which is now touch screen, l dont use the keyboard much on mine anyway. We have 2 in the house at the moment and were just ordering the new one at £89 for the little one.

This sounds like a stupid question to me - so it probably is, but can you read them in the dark??

No, there's no backlights on them but you can buy covers with lights.

I work with a couple of people who have them, one is a proper bookwork, and they all think they are great. Not one complaint from any of them.

You mean you haven't arranged your books into collections? !!!!
Mine are all in colllections - authors, genres, books read etc.
You need a keyboard for that, but then I have almost 2000 books on mine.
    I enjoy sorting them out.

The kindles use e ink .
It looks and reads exactly like a book..
You can read it in the brightest of sunlight, hence in the advert, the woman on the beach reading her Kindle!
Backlights are not needed, otherwise it would be more akin to a computer and your eyes would eventually hurt, with the e. ink there is no problem with a flickering screen.
Clip on lights do the job, Amazon produce covers with built in lights - I have one of those and it's fantastic.
There are much cheaper covers with built in lights on the market now.
The Kindle is awesome, it's my no 1 prized possession and the first thing (after my husband and dog!) that I would rescue if the house caught fire!
E.books are much cheaper now, there are loads on ebay for less than £1 and I've discovered some great new authors through downloading their books.

No, but then again you can't read a book in the dark!

One, slight, drawback for me, and it's just a thing about the feel of a book - when I'm reading I leave the bookmark in the place it was in whilst reading, so say after a hour I look and see how far I've read.....it's a mark of progress....but as I said a minor point.

Me and the missus were talking about them, and I said I like the feel of a book but then she pointed out how I don't miss holding a newspaper when I usuall read newspaper websites for my news!

I'll get her one as a present, not sure myself yet as I don't read a great deal. However I may be changing jobs soon and if I do it's likely I'll have a 1 hour commute by train each way, in which case I would read a lot more.

The other top recommendation that appears in these threads is to download the free Calibre software. This converts ebook formats and lets you subscribe to newspapers amongst other things.

I'll go along with that. A fantastic freebie that changes the format of all books to suit your Device. I love it.
