    don't know what the proper names for them is, the ones that you connect to your broadband and you can watch tv, anybody know much about them, like what channels you can get and how much are they to buy. I'm with virgin and sick of them lifting my leg every couple of months with a quid here and there

    ROKU , Amazon Fire, NOW... all are able to be programmed to receive almost all of what you need... I have ROKU and Amazon Fire and I use the Fire the most. I do have a Now box but soon realised that its a SKY rip off. The amazon fire is £34

    Android boxes are not the best for reliable live tv unless you pay a subscription.

    You can get a android box 25 quid and put uktvnow on it and get lots of sky channels and more for free but you may get a bit of buffering at busy times

    If you happen to still have a sky dish up your better off card sharing where you get all SD sky channels and more includsing bt sports HD and premier Sports HD and Skysports box office SD through your dish and decoded via your internet. you also get full 7 day epg

    The initial setup is slightly more expensive (max £150 for decent box and set up) depending if you want to record one channel while watching another, forward rewind etc. but subscription to decode channels can be got for £9 per year

    ive got an amazon fire stick , if your internet speed is decent and you dont mind not being able to record they are spot on, £35 and you get all the sports on sky/bt/any sports channel in the world, inc some 3pm kick offs not on sky , latest movies still in the cinema and all sorts of other tv/ppv/box sets etc

    you are at the mercy of developers maintaining the add ons but they've been doing them for 15 years now so i cant see it falling over anytime soon

    Tried setting a Firestick up as what people refer to as an Android box but after 4 hours I got bored!

    is what I think you're on about. I got a TalkTalk one off eBay for £50. It's got loads of on-demand apps on it like Iplayer, ITV Hub, BBC Sport, etc also Netflix but you have to pay for that, £5.99 a month. There's also the Now TV app which lets you buy passes for Sky Sports and Movies etc but I don't use that. It's got HD for the Freeview HD channels.

    Its also got a hard drive so you can record FreeView broadcast programs.

    I use an android box and it gives me everything I need; films, box sets, sport, etc. I've had to reprogramme it a couple of times but it's fairly easy to do.

    People aren't streaming these days they're using card-sharing with Linux boxes, Sky must be losing a lot of money but they've shot themselves in the foot really by overcharging.

    I'm interested in trying out this kodi box thing but do you need to set up a VPN so your ISP can't see what's being streamed?

    No you don't need a vpn. Depending on your isp just log into your router and turn off websafe and should be ok.

    Very easy to setup, loads of tutorials on YouTube and Google on how to install the best addons.

    Little tip, don't overload it with loads of addons the best ones are

    Zem.tv for live TV and sport
    Exodus for movies and TV shows
    Salts for movies and TV shows
    Phoenix for a multitude of things include live 3pm premier league kick offs

    UK Turks and NJM Soccer for live TV and sport

    There's a little battle going on at the minute with some developers pulling their content due to someone copying and pasting the code from the best addons into another addon so some are down at the moment but should be back up soon

    Loads of free addons. Most of the ones I use have been mentioned. There is a premium sports addon/app that you can subscribe to called SportsMania/SportsNation that is £50 for the year. I subscribe and you get all the sports channels/ppv events from all around the world (NHL,NBA,NFL,WWE included) in a nice handy categorized list and the majority are streamed in HD (with SD options for lower speed internet connections) as well. They also have an Ultimatemania sub for £75 a year that also includes tv enterntainment channels as well as the sports. They also provide support through their facebook group pages.

    I wouldn't recommend Kodi to anyone who didn't have a basic grasp of what it was, or how to maintain it

    ProSports is top notch for live US stuff. Didn't renew my mlb.tv sub this year but this has the lot.

    A lad at work has bought one, not even opened it to have a look at how you set it up or anything just brought it in for me to sort. Happy to help anybody if they have given it a go but to not even look at it takes the ****. Told him £30 and I'd do it

    It's really, really simple to put onto a Firestick; loads of tutorials on that interweb. Even simpler to put it onto a Windows/Android tablet, laptop, PC or Mac. Less than a minute to download Kodi itself, then just a few clicks to install add-ons.

    I was forever sorting family and friends boxes for them and it was starting to take up too much time so I now have my own repo.

    I made my own build and created a wizard to install and an update wizard. so if any addons go down or new ones come out I replace them and make an update which pops up at top of screen like when any other addon is updated. Every one then clicks on the update wizard and alls good again :)

    lots have either given me a tenner or packs of beer and cider for the initial install :). Some lads in the pub had originally purchased their boxes for over £100 from some guy and hardly owt worked after a couple of months

    RuYa and Exodus are the only two services I use now. Full Sky Live TV and pretty much every TV show and film known to man. All HD quality
