Ronnie stand-in needed By Paul Thompson
BARNSLEY will explore the possibility of replacing stabbing victim Ronnie Wallwork after the next transfer window opens on January 1.
The Reds have already been considering potential targets to succeed the midfielder who faces a long road to fitness. Wallwork has said that he would love to play for Barnsley again and has paid tribute to the club and fans for their messages of support that he has received. He was signed by the Reds on loan from West Brom until January 1 but it looks as if he could be out of the game for months; he was stabbed seven times in a Manchester bar and has wounds to his back, stomach and hand; a man has been charged with attempted murder. Reds manager Simon Davey said today: "Ronnie's got to undergo his rehabilitation before anybody can start looking at his performances. "Obviously he's a West Brom player at the moment; he'll need to get back for them. It's a long road for him. Hopefully he can come through it. He's got to recover from the operation first "To get a player and have him for only nine days before losing him in such horrific circumstances knocks you back. "It's important that he gets himself right. "We've been out looking (at other players] but we can't do anything until January. We've also had to shuffle our pack and work with what we've got. - that's all we can do. The former Manchester United player said "I would like to thank everybody connected with Barnsley for the messages of support over the last month. I have had hundreds of messages and hundreds of e-mails, which made me feel a lot better, especially when you think I only played two games for the club. "I would play for Barnsley again in a heartbeat. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and we did really well." Davey revealed that Paul Reid is struggling for Saturday's match against QPR: "He hasn't trained all week and probably won't come through."
